Board of Education President, Alex Zaltsman, made the following statement:

"I’d like to comment on some troubling occurrences recently in the news. A Board member in a northern New Jersey district was found to have made some inflammatory, and frankly, unacceptable, comments relative to a change in Title 18A of NJ Statues, specifically N.J.S.A. 18A:35-4.35 and 35-4.36.

In summary, this statute requires boards of education to include instruction and adopt instructional materials in the middle and high school curriculum that accurately portray the political, economic and social contributions of persons with disabilities and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people.

We want to remind the community that Millburn provides full support of LGBTQ+ students and employees as per numerous policies protecting sexual orientation and gender identity."

Business Agenda Items

---Two generous donations to the school district were accepted. Many thanks to:

  • The Education Foundation of Millburn-Short hills for a donation of $50,000 on behalf of the Liu Family and the Millburn-Short Hills Chinese Association.

  • Real Short Hills for a donation of $3,790.00 for the Special Services Department. These funds were raised through the annual house tour for Autism Awareness.

---The Board approved a resolution to authorize the joint improvement of the Library Field, adjacent to the Public Library which is partially owned by the Board and partially owned by the township. This resolution will upgrade the existing field by turfing of a 50 by 100-yard area, erection of new fencing and the possible inclusion of a new parking area at the site, to be funded through bond financing implemented by the Township.

---The Board approved a number of revised policies and regulations: Approved 6/26/2019
