Be safe ~ Be respectful ~ Be engaged

At Lakeview, we have three positive expectations, and all of our students should know them by now - even our youngest learners. They are:

• Be safe

• Be respectful

• Be engaged

We think that these three rules or expectations cover nearly every situation that could come up in a school. "Be safe" means to wait your turn, follow directions, keep hands and feet to self, etc. "Be respectful" means use kind words, listening to others, and taking care of property. "Be engaged" means asking questions, taking ownership of learning, and doing your work.

The first week of school, all of our students learned what these three expectations look like in various areas of our school, such as the lunchroom, recess, hallways, etc. Here is a link to the chart we use with students, and it is posted around our school. Why we do take time for this? Because the positive character and leadership that students show allows all of us to focus on our main job - learning together!

MAP Testing

Students in grades 1-5 began the fall session of MAP testing on Thursday, September 12. Testing will continue through next week. Please talk to your child and encourage him/her to work hard on the assessment because it really does help our teachers plan for instruction. New this year - families will be getting the results of the MAP test sent home in the coming weeks with an explanation. More info on that next week.

PTO Meeting

At our first PTO meeting of the year, we reviewed events from recent months such as the Color Run and Popsicles on the Playground. PTO is in the process of creating a school family directory - look for more info on that in next week's bulletin. The PTO is coordinating with student council and Ms. Drake-Hames on a float for the homecoming parade this week (see above) as well as preparing for upcoming events such as Grandparent's Day (Friday, October 18) and the Scholastic Book Fair during conferences on October 9th and 10th. For more information about the PTO, please click here.
