3rd-5th Grade: Book Character Pumpkin Decorating, Due October 22nd
What is it?
Crockett Elementary is hosting its 1st Annual Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Event! This is an optional even in which students can decorate a pumpkin to look like their favorite book character. Pumpkins are to be decorated AT HOME. This is a family activity. Students will bring their completed pumpkins to school on October 22nd to be displayed in the library.
Who can Participate?
3rd – 5th Grade. This is OPTIONAL! Your child does not have to participate.
What do I need to know about decorating the pumpkins?
- Pumpkins should be decorated as your favorite book character. (Please make sure that your character is from a book and not just a movie.)
- You may use a real or fake pumpkin.
- The pumpkin MUST be decorated to look like a book character.
- Students must include an index card (or a half sheet of paper) with their name, title of the book, and the book character’s name.
- Do not carve the pumpkin. The pumpkin must remain intact - no holes, carvings, etc.
- Get creative! Use glue, paper, paint, household objects, and crafting supplies to decorate your pumpkin.
Where will the pumpkins be displayed?
Pumpkins will be on display in the library during the week of October 25-29th for students to view during library time. Families will be able to see the pumpkins at our Open House on October 28th.
All pumpkins need to be picked up or taken home on November 1st or they will be discarded.
Crockett Family Night, October 28th
Red Ribbon Week
Pk-2nd Grade Book Character Parade
We will be having a book character celebration on Friday, October 29th. PK – 2nd grade students will be dressing up like a book character. Students must have a book to accompany his/her costume. This is an optional activity. There will be a parade for PK-2nd grade students during school hours. The parade will be recorded for parents to view afterwards.
Rules for costumes:
• No makeup or colored hair spray
• No weapons
• Costumes need to meet GCCISD student dress code standards.
• Students may bring something to change into after the parade
We encourage you to keep small pieces of your costume and masks at home. These things are easily misplaced.
Book Fair
Book Fair is coming November 1-5. More information will be sent home the week of October 25th.
Most people don't carry cash anymore. Families can create eWallets for students to shop the Fair, and every eWallet created means kids will have the opportunity to choose more books they want to read! Parents can now share the eWallet with other family members and friends to add funds to the child’s eWallet.
*Please note: Any leftover funds from the eWallet will automatically convert into a gift card after the onsite book fair is over. This can be used on the Scholastic Store and Reading Clubs.

Reminders for Families:
Student headphones must be brought to school daily
We are asking each student to bring in a pair of headphones or earbuds that could be plugged into an Apple iPad. For health reasons, it is important that students have their own headphones or earbuds so they are not sharing with other students.
Please send the headphones or earbuds in a zippered plastic baggie labeled with your child’s name or you may write your child's name directly on the headphones.Attendance Matters!
Parents, please click on the link below to review tips to help you and your child maintain a good attendance record. Research supports that attendance directly affects academic achievement. We need our students to be healthy and present to maximize their learning. https://bit.ly/3u6iF0U

GCCISD Covid-19 Safe Return to School Plan 2021-22
Self-Assessments - Students and staff should conduct daily self-assessments and stay home if ill or exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms. Staff and students may return to school once 24 hours have passed with no fever and symptoms have improved.
Positive COVID Tests & Reporting - Individuals who have close contact with someone testing positive for COVID-19 should report to the school nurse, Ms. Dube, and also consider self-isolating for 14 days from the date of last contact and should also consider wearing a face mask if returning to school/work prior to the quarantine period. GCCISD will continue to communicate positive COVID-19 cases using the COVID Dashboard.
Face Coverings & Desk Shields - Face coverings, masks and desk shields are currently optional as this time. CDC is recommending the use of masks, while indoors, due to the rapid spread of the delta variant.
Visitors/Family Members - Visitors are allowed on campus after passing the COVID assessment screening questionnaire.
Safety Precautions - GCCISD will continue to implement safety protocols to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 which include the following: sanitizer and cleaning supplies in all classrooms, sanitize high touch surfaces through out the day, sanitize/deep clean classrooms if there has been known COVID exposure, sanitizing buses between shifts, and educating students on proper use of and staff monitoring use of water fountains.
