September is Attendance Awareness Month

Please work with us to ensure that your child receives the best education possible for him or her. One of the ways you can do this is to get your child to school on time everyday. We do realize that some absences are unavoidable. We understand that children will get sick and need to stay home occasionally. The important thing is to get your children to school as often as possible. Sporadic absences, not just those on consecutive days of school, matter. Before you know it – just one or two days a month can add up to nearly 10 percent of the school year.

If too many absences occur, it is still a problem whether they are excused or unexcused because they represent too much lost learning time in the classroom. Please try to line up vacations with our school calendar. Please try to schedule doctor and dentist appointments after school hours as well.

Research has shown that tardiness also has a negative impact on learning. Students who arrive even a few minutes late on a frequent basis receive fewer hours of instruction than students who are on time each day. Researchers also found that students who arrive late to school often miss out on important opening announcements and academic activities. This can affect your child both academically and socially. Please strive to have your student to school by 8:10 each day. This gives your child enough time to feel prepared for the day without feeling rushed.

We appreciate your efforts in working with us to make this a successful year for your child.
