Fall Raffle and Boo Bash 2018: Success!

Once again our school community has show amazing support through our fundraising efforts on the annual PTA Raffle! We had just over 75% of student body participation! Together, we raised $24,135. Our executive board continues to be excellent stewards of the money raised ensuring every penny is used in ways that benefit each and every child! For more information regarding the 2018-2019 budget, please visit the PTA webpage. Our next PTA General Membership meeting is Wednesday, November 7th at 7:00 pm in the Media Center (child care will be provided)

THANK YOU to the many parent volunteers who help make the Boo Bash such a great family night! We are especially grateful to Debbie O'Rourke for her leadership with this years event.

Returning to school for forgotten items...

Our goal is to foster responsible behavior in our students. If your child fails to bring home books or materials needed for homework assignments, please do not bring him or her back to school without first contacting the teacher or principal for advice. Encourage your child to do some problem solving: they could call a friend, check the class website or other internet resources. To ensure the safety and security of the students in Prime Time, the staff is not able to allow parents/students into the building though the Prime Time doors. Finally, we have one custodian who is responsible for cleaning and preparing the building for the next school day. Please sensitive to their work responsibilities and do not ask them to unlock classroom doors.

The Power of Kindness

Dale Atkins PhD & Amanda Salzhauer (MSW) speak of the The fundamentals of kindness in their book: The Kindness Advantage (Cultivating Compassionate and Connected Children) Those fundamentals are:

  • Acceptance
  • Commitment
  • Connection
  • Empathy
  • Giving
  • Interest
  • Nurturing
  • Observing
  • Questioning
  • (Be) Yourself

Elementary age children often have varied interests that change and evolve over time. Some interests will be short lived while others might "take root". It is important to encourage children to learn more about those things they are curious about. Finding our passion, regardless of age, gives us purpose in our lives. Our 4th graders showed GREAT interest/passion as they put on the annual 4th Grade Halloween Carnival at lunch this past Friday. (Additionally, many of the students also volunteered their time at the Boo Bash.) They found great purpose, pride and satisfaction as they shared an interest with classmates taking part in something greater than themselves. (See below to learn more about the 4th Grade Halloween Carnival.)

4th Grade Halloween Carnival was a HUGE success!

The 4th Grade Carnival raised $743.00! This money will be combined with the money raised at our annual Charity Volleyball event (which will be held in April). This years charity is Scarlet's Smile Foundation a local 501 (C)(3). Our donations will help Scarlet's Smile accomplish their goal to build an all-inclusive playground in Commerce Township where all children can play.

Thank you to our 4th graders (along with their teacher and families)!
