6th Grade Update and Resource
The 6th grade team at SAMS is working diligently to improve PBIS behavior at our school. PBIS is in full-swing again this year! Our team is working hard to teach and model expectations for our students. Our team strives to support students in order to create the best learning environment. The team reviews and analyzes discipline data in order to identify trends, and then shares the findings with staff and parents. Our top priority is meeting the safety, social/emotional needs of our students by providing opportunities for teachers, staff, and parents to work together to address behavioral concerns. The incentive we would like to highlight is our Friday Candy Bar Award to our outstanding students who have met the SAMS expectations. (See photos below)
Below you will find some strategies on how to help with behaviors at home and at school. As always it is a privilege to serve you and your children.

A Message from 7th Grade
7th grade students have had an amazing 2nd quarter. Our team hopes you had a wonderful holiday season! Happy New Year!
In ELA, students worked on a culminating project for the unit entitled “Sharing the Planet.” They worked in collaborative groups to create presentations about one of the three environmental issues we have studied during this unit. Students presented their projects in front of a panel of judges on Friday, December 13. The winners were awarded with a Chick-Fil-A lunch!
Social Studies classes have been learning about all things REVOLUTION! Students should be able to compare and contrast key facts and details about the American and French revolutions. The World History class has been focusing on Renaissance/Reformation.
In math, students have been working on operations of rational numbers and finishing up simplifying linear expressions.
Science classes have been busy! Seventh grade science finished up physics last month. They created complex machines to survive on a deserted island, and studied electricity using circuit boards to create closed circuits."

Media Matters
Students have access to 1,000 audio and ebooks through their SORA apps as well as access to the Randolph County Public Library. Their lunch numbers serve as their public library card and their birth date and month as their 4 digit pin. For example, a September 6th pin would be 0906. Students log on through NCEdCloud. SORA can be found on Clever on their apps home page. Public libraries, such as Randolph Public Library and NC Kids Digital Library, can be added for free. Ebooks and audiobooks can be checked out there.
