Biography 2

Bush was born into a wealthy and political family. Bush attended Phillips Academy, which is an elite boarding school in Massachusetts. Bush met his wife, Barbra, at a christmas dance in 1941 when he was 17 and she was 16, they would marry 4 years later. On Bush's 18th birthday, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he would be the youngest pilot in the navy during World War 2. Bush ran 58 missions and almost died during one of them. Bush was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his WW2 service. After the war, Bush went to Yale where he earned his degree in economics in 1948. After, he moved to Midland, Texas where he was successful in tho oil and petrolium business. In 1966, Bush was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, where he would serve one term. Bush was elected to be the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations in 1971. In 1980, Bush ran for president but failed to win his primary election, but was chosen to be President Ronald Reagans Vice President. Together, they would win the 1980 and 1984 elections.

In 1988, George H W. Bush won the presidential election against democratic nominee Michael Dukakis. President Bush was the first sitting Vice President to be elected to Presidency since 1837. Bush's Presidency would be defined by his involvement in foreign affairs. Early into his term, he responded to unrest in the Soviet Union and oversaw the U.S. Military's removal of Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega. Soon after, in 1990, Bush responded to Saddam Husseins invasion of Kuwait by organizing a military strike to drive him out of the country. This would be Bush's greatest achievement as president.

In 2000, George H W.'s son George W. Bush was elected as the 43rd president of the United States, he would serve 2 terms as president. In 2005, Bush allied with his successor, Bill Clinton, to aid those affected by Hurricane Katrina. Together, they raised over $100 in the first few months. Bush lives in Houston, Texas and Kennebunkport, Maine with Barbra Bush, his wife of 70 years.
