June 12th - 16th, 2023
Spoiler Alert: It's the Last Week of School, Principal Hiring Update, Volunteer Needs, PTSA News, ...
Just three more school days to go and we're calling wraps on this 22-23 year! Our Promotion celebration last week was a lovely culminating event for our 8th graders before they head to summer, then off to high schools. Many thanks to all the community members there to cheer our students on, and all the staff and volunteers who came together to plan and support the event.
This week on Tuesday, Mr. Burnham is asking for volunteers to help with a special project in the Water Garden. Please see below if you can sign up to help. There are other needs listed as well.
On Wednesday, we will have a special schedule with 20 minute periods, a Talent Show after lunch, and then time for Yearbook distribution and signing on the playground. The June Talent Show is a highlight of the year. Many thanks to Sara Daley for being our Talent Show Champion.
Yearbooks- Every student will receive a Yearbook. They are already labeled and sorted by 7th period classes. Our team of students, led by Ms. Edin Cook, has done a beautiful job of capturing many highlights of the year and we are so excited to share these books with everyone. If you have not yet, and you are able to pay to support the cost of the book and the tech needs of the Yearbook class, here is the SchoolPay link.
Please try to avoid early dismissals on the last day! It is very hard to locate students during the talent show and it is disruptive to the audience. At the end of the day, everyone will be outside. Our PTSA has a special surprise planned and there will be free time for students to sign yearbooks and socialize.
End of Year Checklist:
- Lockers are cleaned out and left open
- Library books are returned or fines paid
- Computers AND Charging Cords are retured or the summer permission form is done
- Cafeteria accounts are clear
- Belongings taken home from lost and found
- Artwork, journals, etc., taken home from classrooms
- Sign up for the Family Directory and Carpool list if you are returning (see below)
Thank you for helping your student with this housekeeping list and for your support thoughout the year!
Best wishes for a healthy and relaxing summer break!

End of Year Letter from our PTSA Executive Board
In the coming weeks, PTSA leadership will be in partnership with Dr. Lorna Fast Buffalo Horse on the hiring process for our principal next year. Please see the following message and invitation to participate in a community meeting.
Principal Hiring Update- Meeting Invitation and Survey Link
da Vinci Principal Hiring Information:
Here’s a letter Dr. Lorna Fast Buffalo Horse would like us to share with the community. We hope you are able to join us at the virtual meeting this week and/or complete the survey (see letter below). We also hope to be able to get feedback that’s representative of the demographics of our community. Your involvement is greatly appreciated!
Hello, da Vinci families! As you know, Principal Robbie Davis has decided not to return to da Vinci following her leave this year, so we are in the process of hiring the next da Vinci principal. Input from parents and guardians about what characteristics they would like to see in their next principal is an essential part of the process.
Given that, I would like to invite you to an online opportunity to share your thoughts and also to learn about the principal hiring process in PPS. The meeting will be Thursday, June 15th from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and it will be online. The link for that meeting is: meet.google.com/yne-mtzq-cgb. Many thanks to all who are able to attend at that time.
For those not able to make it, the community feedback survey in six languages is available. Please note the drop down for da Vinci.
Thank you in advance for your participation and input.
Respectfully,
Lorna Fast Buffalo Horse
Area Senior Director

Action Required! Important Information about PPS Chromebooks
Please read below and take the appropriate action(s) based on your student's grade level. The PPS Chromebooks need to stay with the assigned school. We either need the device returned or if your student is returning next year, they can keep it for the summer but we need the form below signed. Every device must be accounted for.
6th and 7th grade students who will attend da Vinci next year:
Students/families have the option to keep their assigned Chromebook over the summer or turn it in to da Vinci. If your computer is being turned in for the summer, it needs to be cleaned of all writing and sticker residue. You will not be given the same computer back in the fall.
- If the student Chromebook will be kept over the summer, a permission slip will need to be filled out and you will accept responsibility for the device.
- If no permission slip is filled out, the student Chromebook and charger will need to be collected. Collection continues this last week.
- Here is a google form for the permission slip. If you prefer a paper copy, they are available in the office. *NOTE: The student Chromebook will need to be present when filling out the form.
Summer Technology Needs
Throughout the summer, students who have taken home their chromebooks and encounter any issues, such as drops, damages, or technical glitches, can seek assistance from the PPS Service Desk. They can reach out by calling 503.916.3375 or emailing support@pps.net.
In certain cases, hardware repairs may be necessary, requiring the device to be brought in to the Dr.Matthew Prophet Center (PEC), 501 N. Dixon St. If a student experiences an issue with their district-assigned chromebooks, they can visit the PEC, Mondays or Thursdays between 9 AM and 3 PM. Our Service Desk technicians will be available to assist them in sending the device out for repair.
For current 6th and 7th graders who are returning to da Vinci. Note you must include the IT tag number.
It Takes a Village ...
There are yet more opportunities to get involved as we head toward the summer break. Please sign up or just show up.
- On Tuesday, Mr. Burnham needs helpers for a project in the Water Garden. Come for any part of the time, 2nd - 6th periods.
- Help deal with the Lost and Found right after the last day of school. Inevitably, there will still be a pile of stuff ...
- Help with SUMMER ROSE GARDEN CARE. We need a small team willing to come weed, water and deadhead the roses.
- Help with a CLEAN UP. Soon after school is out, we need help to clean out and move a few rooms to get ready for next year. There will be times on Thursday, 6/15 and Friday, 6/16.
Please let us know if you can help out this week. Mr. B needs help on Tuesday with an art project. We need quite a bit of help with cleaning up and moving rooms at the end of the week. Help us fill a dumpster or get stuff to a recycler.
Looking for photos from the year? Our Yearbook students have these folders for you to take a look.

BLUE BottleDrop bags are available at the school office and at pickup on the last day of school, so make sure to get yours to help us throughout the summer. You can place any Oregon redeemables in the blue bag, and once filled, you can take it to one of the BottleDrop Centers (there is one outside Whole Foods on Burnside and the Hollywood Fred Meyar). Just scan the QR code (on the bag) to open the door and place your bag inside. This is at no extra cost to you!
