From the Desk of Kathryn Woodson Barr, McAuley's Head of School...
McAuley is simply the best. I seem to have uttered this phrase over and over during this year.
After my first couple of days on the job, my husband asked how I liked being surrounded by teenage girls all day long. Since we both love being around our two daughters and four nieces, all between the ages of 20 and 23, I laughed and said, “You know how much fun it is to be with our girls? At McAuley I get to hang out with 150!” And, he understood. When I accepted the position I knew that I would love the School and the students. What surprised me the most was how kind, open and welcoming the girls have been. They really are the best, and they inspire all of us adults to be our best.
When I received the news that McAuley was voted the 2015 “Best Private School” in Maine in the Down East Magazine competition (see the official press release below), I was walking down the aisle of a plane on the way to see our second daughter graduate from college. How fitting for the celebration of one of my six girls to coincide with the celebration of “my” 150 girls. This is a well-deserved accolade, and I thank you for your votes in making this a reality.
As my first year winds to a close, I want to thank you for all you do for this School and for the girls who learn here each day. I extend my most enthusiastic congratulations to our seniors and my warmest welcome to our incoming first years.
Have a safe and enjoyable summer,
Kathryn Woodson Barr
