Silver Gate Elementary
Week of September 21st
Hello Silver Gate Families, I hope you all enjoyed your weekend! As we head into week four of the school year (time is flying!) I would like to commend everyone for the incredible job they are doing in online learning. I am proud of the work our students are doing, the positive attitude and commitment to learning our staff has shown, and the continued support of our amazing community.
Making connections with students is the part of my job that I love the most, and I miss that part of in person learning. I’ve had to get creative now that we are online. One way I am doing this is by joining in on the online learning classrooms. This has been a great way to see the students and engage in their learning. Don’t worry if you haven’t seen me yet, I will be joining more classrooms in the weeks to come. I am also working on some fun video content that I will share soon as well as Friday Assemblies.
City Schools Offering Rigorous Math Curriculum
Aly Martinez, Instructional Coordinator for math published an OpEd piece in the San Diego Union Tribune titled ‘City Schools Offering Rigorous Math Curriculum’. It’s a great read highlighting the amazing math work we are doing as a district to positively impact teaching and student learning.
SDUSD is currently seeking feedback on the Learning Continuity and Attendance Plan (LCP).
WE STILL NEED A FEW VOLUNTEERS
Silver Gate Elementary is looking for four parent representatives who are willing to support the shared decision making process to improve student achievement through quality teaching and learning experiences.
Virtual Gardening Videos Are BACK!
Celebrate your child’s special day with a Birthday Shout-Out at school! Make your child a star for the day with their first name and a “Happy Birthday” displayed on the School Marquee on Catalina Blvd. All proceeds help fund the enrichment programs FSG supports at Silver Gate. Send in your request and Venmo at least 2 weeks prior to your child’s birthday.
Venmo $25 to @SilverGateFSG and include in the notes:
Student First & Last name
As part of the SDUSD attempt to make distance learning a huge success, they are offering hotspots for any student that is struggling with their connection. Here is a link that outlines how to receive internet service to your home.
Parents have the opportunity to attend virtual learning sessions developed by our district. These sessions will cover how to navigate online learning tools, how to develop important structures for learning, and how to resolve technical issues.
