The Whitesides Post

October 10, 2022

Thank you!

Thank you for attending Parent/Teacher Conferences. We appreciate your support.

Halloween Carnival

Our Halloween Carnival will be Friday, October 28th, from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Our PTA is still needing volunteers to help with this event. You will only need to volunteer for 30 minutes. If you are willing and able to help, please call Jessie Cornelius at (801)513-9642. Thank you!

Halloween Parade

Our Halloween parade will be October 31st at 9:30 a.m. The parade will take place on the track behind the school. Bring a chair and/or blanket.

Students should come dressed in costume and will remove it after the parade. If it's a costume that doesn't distract from learning (i.e. wearing overalls for a farmer costume, etc.), students can leave it on.

Teachers will need to know what/who your child is dressing up as by Wednesday, October 12th. To ensure the parade is a positive experience for students and a tradition that we can continue, please carefully note the following restrictions on costumes.

*Students may not dress up as an ethnic or cultural group. Culture is not a costume. In respect to the Native American view, students cannot dress up as Pocahantas, Sacagawea, Sitting Bull, etc. This is cultural appropriation and is inappropriate.

*Skin color cannot be altered in any way.

*No masks.

*Costumes cannot be gory or threatening.

*No costumes that depict illegal substances.

*No hand-held accessories (i.e., wands, weapons, etc.).

*No strapless costumes or mid-drifts. Underwear should not be visible.

*Costumes should be fun and exciting, not political, or offensive.

If you are unsure about a particular costume, please feel free to contact Ms. Schulz or your child's teacher.

Parents should not come dressed in costume.

Reflections

Please consider having your child enter our Reflections Contest. Possible categories are Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts. This is a great opportunity for students to share their skills and talents. All entries will be submitted online at www.utahpta.org/ref. Deadline for entries is October 17th.
