TLES COMMUNITY UPDATE
August 8, 2023
Principal's Message
The first day of school is Monday, August 14. That is less than a week away! Remember it is a MODIFIED DAY and all students TK-5th will attend from 8:50 AM-12:55 PM. Please plan to leave your house early as there will be a lot of traffic. Gates open at 8:35 AM.
By now, hopefully, you have begun adjusting your child's sleep schedule to slowly get them in (or back in) the routine of getting up early.
Here are some other reminders of things to accomplish between now and Monday, Aug. 14:
* Complete Annual Family Update in Infinite Campus
* Complete registration process for any new TK or Kinder student
* Look at grade level supply list and obtain those supplies for your student
* Set up childcare to watch students while you attend Back to School Night on the evening of Thursday, Aug. 17
* Sign up for grade level Remind texts
* Follow us on Social Media
Scroll down for more information about each of these bullets.
Sincerely,
Lani Russi
Principal, TLES
CLASS PLACEMENTS
Families with TK and Kinder students were notified of early bird / late bird assignments as of last Friday, August 4. Please note that we prioritize the placement of students with siblings in the early bird time slot and then by request in order of registration date. We currently do not have any openings in any early bird time slots in any of our TK or Kinder classes. We apologize but hope you understand that the early bird/ late bird schedule is consistent throughout the district and allows for smaller class sizes throughout the day.
Teacher assignments will be available online through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal beginning Thursday, August 10 at 4:30 PM. Please contact our office if you need help accessing your parent portal.
While some of our tech-savvy students and parents have found ways to access rosters early, please know that what you see prior to Aug. 10 at 4:30 PM is a draft and may change. All placements are tentative until school starts and we are able to see students in seats.
Please note:
No changes to class assignments will be considered until after the first 10 days of school. We have worked hard to create balanced classes and until we can confirm enrollment numbers we will not make any changes.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
TK and Kinder students are strongly encouraged to participate in class color days the first two days of school to help guide them to the right classroom. Once you know your child's assigned teacher, encourage your child to wear these colors:
TK
Candray: Purple
Elzig: Orange
KINDER
Baltas: Yellow
Bates: Blue
Breen: Red
Medina: Green
Our kinder staff will be wearing their class colors and the remaining TLES staff will be wearing blue staff shirts so we are easy to recognize and you know we are here to help! <3
Kinder families are also highly encouraged to attend our Kindergarten Tissues and Kisses event.

Please note: The warning bell rings at 8:45 AM. The second bell at 8:50 AM signals the start of school. Students who arrive after the second bell are considered tardy and must enter the office to get a pass.
DROP OFF
Students may walk or ride their bikes to school, be walked to the gate, or be dropped off in the pick-up/drop-off loop. Families may walk students to their classroom door on the first day of school only but may not enter the classroom nor linger outside to avoid a crowded situation. Starting on day 2, families may not enter campus and should drop students off in the loop or at the gate.
Please ensure you remain in your vehicle when using the drop-off loop and that you continue to pull forward to keep traffic moving. Please do not drop off your child in the loop until after you pass the crosswalk/office doors. There is no dropping off until after you pass the crosswalk and you will be asked to pull forward. Please be respectful to our staff on duty and to other families by following this process. If you would like to walk your students to their gate, please park in the lot or along the street but not in the loop.
We also ask that you please model safe and appropriate behavior for our students by using crosswalks rather than walking through traffic. Crosswalks are located in front of the office and at the stop sign near the kinder playground.
DISMISSAL (PICK-UP)
Modified dismissal is at 12:55 PM for all students. The first day of school is a modified day.
Dismissal on regular days is 3:15 PM for grades 1-5, 12:55 PM for Early Bird TK and Kinder, and 2:25 for Late Bird TK and Kinder.
Please be courteous to others and do not leave your vehicle while you are in the loop. If you plan to meet your child at the gate, please park in the parking lot or on the street.
Please NO PARKING in the loop and again we ask that you please use crosswalks located in front of the office or near the kinder playground rather than walking through traffic. We want to keep everyone safe and model appropriate behavior for our students.
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT
5:00- Gates Open / PTA Sales of Membership and Spirit wear.
5:15- PTA Meeting/Presentation in MPR (all families are welcome)
6:00-6:25 Classroom Presentation 1
6:30-6:55 Classroom Presentation 2
If you only have one child at our school you may choose to attend either presentation as they are identical. If you have more than one child, this gives you the opportunity to watch presentations for two different classes the same evening.
**Because administration and teachers will be presenting important information to families about goals and expectations for the year, we ask that parents do their best to find childcare for this evening so your focus can be on the presentations. This is one of the few events of the year that is intended for the adults so we can establish a partnership to support the students the rest of the year together.
