The course selection process for the 2021-22 school year begins this week for sophomores and continues until after winter break as outlined in a recent email sent to students, parents and guardians by Director of Student Services Sarah Bowen.
On Monday, Oct. 26, counselors met with all sophomores to share important considerations when selecting junior year classes and the procedures for entering these classes in Infinite Campus.
Beginning tomorrow, Oct. 30, each sophomore student will meet individually with their counselor to discuss their course selections. Please see the Coursebook webpage for additional course selection resources and information about this process.
Course selection for freshmen will occur in December and course selection for juniors will occur after winter break.
Communities disproportionately impacted by the pandemic will receive $1.3 million to be distributed to community organizations that work with Chicago's Department of Family and Support Services that serve prenatal parents and children up to age five.
Student Privacy During the Pandemic
The nonprofit Center for Democracy and Technology recently conducted surveys and focus groups to look at data privacy as it relates to students during the pandemic. Although parents and teachers support the use of online connections concerns were raised that student activities will be tracked in ways they aren't aware of.

There were plenty of distractions for a ninth-grade student in Detroit during an online music class but he welcomed the challenged and likened it to performing in front of a crowd. His teacher, however, has to comfort many students who are disappointed about not having in-person fine arts practices.
The state of Illinois to Fund Two Manufacturing Training Academies
A plan was recently announced by the state of Illinois to invest $15 million to construct two new manufacturing training academies at downstate community colleges with the goal of equipping students for an array of manufacturing jobs that require specialized training.
