Week 7 Term 2 SFDS Newsletter
St Francis de Sales - 15 June 2021
TRACY'S MESSAGE
Kia Ora Ano
What a wonderful school community and parish mass we had on Sunday. As usual our learners were amazing…our altar servers, greeters, readers, singers, and offertory helpers all did their very best. It took real courage for all of our learners who had roles at our Mass, it certainly isn’t easy standing up and reading in front of large crowds - so well done!
The community were very complimentary and truly enjoyed having so many young ones at church. Our learners really enjoyed mass and are looking forward to our next school community/parish mass – thank you to our DRS Vanessa – a great job.
This school/parish mass was also a very special celebration for our Mr W. Chris received the sacrament of communion…CONGRATULATIONS Chris! – he even received a certificate!
Mid-year learner reports will be going home in week 9 on Friday 2 July. These reports are the basis of our mid-year whanau, ākonga (learner) and kaiako (teacher) hui. These will be held in the last week of term - Wednesday 7 July and Thursday 8 July between 3-6pm. Please book a time by going to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and entering the code zmwsp. Please note that on these days school finishes at 2:30pm.
Tomorrow night (Wednesday) at 5:30pm come along to our Te Korowai Ātawhai whanau roopu. The purpose of these hui is to see how we can better support our Māori tamariki - maybe you are able to contribute and support this partnership.
Also tomorrow night (Wednesday) is our PSL (Parent School Link) AGM. This is an amazing opportunity to join a motivated bunch of whanau who organise social events to bring our community together and raise money for all those extras. At the AGM you can see what this year's wish list looks like.
This Saturday is Suzanne Aubert's birthday. Come and join in the celebrations at The Home of Compassion starting at 11am (see the flyer attached)
Have a great rest of the week.

ROAD RULES
We have received an email last week from the member of the community regarding an incident involving their child running into a car door - this is a great time to remember the road rules below:
When picking up and dropping off your children to school always park legally. For the safety of everyone, drivers are requested to carefully follow these road rules when driving in the streets near school. This includes: no U turns, no backing round corners or turning in and out of driveways (including the school driveway), no double parking, no stopping or parking on yellow lines.
Obeying the road patrollers when they are on duty, children get in and out of the car on the foot path side of the car, no cars in the school driveway – the driveway does not have room for dropping off, turning or parking.
Please remind your children that they should always use pedestrian crossings and parents and children must follow the instructions of road patrollers when they are on duty at a crossing. As well as our two crossings on Mersey and Clyde St we have been asked to remind families that use the crossing patrolled by Island Bay School to also follow the directions of their road patrollers.
