Principal Note
Hello Munhall Families,
e-Learning
Thank you again to all of our parents for going above and beyond these past two weeks. Being at home with my own children this week definitely gave me a different perspective on e-Learning. As a school, we will continue to strive to create meaningful and purposeful learning opportunities so your child has a level of continuity in their learning. We know we can’t replicate what our students would be experiencing within our classrooms. We also know what this learning looks like in your home is going to be very unique based on your family construct, work requirements, number of devices, etc. Therefore, I will be putting out a parent survey over Spring Break that will provide me with parent feedback/insight that will guide our next steps as a school to support our students and families, should remote learning continue for an extended period of time. Please see a few additional bullet points below:
At this point, schools are closed through April 7th. We are still awaiting guidance from the state level regarding future timelines, etc. It is possible we will receive additional information today about extending (or not) school closures.
If you have questions, concerns, need support, etc. please don’t hesitate to contact the school. Even though we are not there, we have access to phone calls, voice messages, and emails. If you need support, options include calling 331-228-2600, 331-228-6637, or emailing Jarrod.Buxton@d303.org.
The state has not recognized the past two weeks as “Emergency Days”, so our last day of school is still scheduled for May 22nd.
D303 has implemented an online chat support solution. This is the best way for families to get support. We will be able to assist you during normal business hours, but if you leave a message, support staff will follow up with you the next business day. Please click the following link to access chat: https://helpdesk.d303.org/chat/. For families who need immediate technical assistance, please contact the HelpDesk Phone Support number between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday by calling 331-228-4357.
Due to the nature of our school closings, the state has determined that any districts who have not engaged in IAR testing will be exempt. Therefore, regardless of our return date, our students will not be taking IAR during the 2019-2020 school year.
Lastly, I hope all families can disconnect over Spring Break. That is the message I will be giving to our teachers and staff. Powering down will be a major goal of mine over Spring Break.
I have been posting morning announcements to the Munhall Facebook page. One of the things I feel is of the utmost importance is that students stay as connected as possible to Munhall during this time away. It’s important that they see their teacher’s faces, hear their voices, and receive personalized feedback. Morning announcements is just one small way to do this. The Munhall Facebook page can be found here. I know Facebook is not reaching our entire Munhall community, so teachers have begun including the announcements on their daily work postings via Google Classrooms, SeeSaw, Google Slides, or a mass email distribution.
Please visit the District 303 website that is designed to answer your questions about e-Learning, assist you with finding community resources, and link you to information from reputable agencies about COVID-19.
Por favor, visite el sitio web del Distrito ya que está diseñado para responder sus preguntas sobre el aprendizaje electrónico (e-Learning), ayudarle a encontrar recursos, y enlazarlo con información de agencias confiables sobre el COVID-19
Lastly, we realize this is a stressful time for families. If you are looking for resources for talking with your children, the National Association of School Psychologists has parent resources online.
Meals at Thompson Middle School
District 303 is providing meals for any student who needs it between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m Monday-Friday at Thompson Middle School, 705 W. Main Street. Anyone who needs breakfast and lunch may pick up a “grab and go” bag with up to two days of food at a time. These meals will continue over Spring Break. I’d like to reiterate, these meals are available to any family who could benefit during these trying times.
2-1-1: Human Services Support in Kane County
Please see the attached flier in our Bulletin this week that provides information about 2-1-1 support for individuals and families. Within the flier you will see the free and confidential supports available to families, while also finding ways to provide help if you’re in a position to do so.
Intra-District Transfer Waivers
This message is a reminder to elementary school families that the Intra-District transfer window for the 2020-21 school year opens on April 7 at 8:00 a.m. For the 2020-21 school year ALL elementary students have been assigned to their attendance area school by the District. This includes elementary students currently attending a school on an intra-district transfer.
An Intra-District Transfer Request must be submitted online no sooner than 8:00 a.m. on April 7, 2020 and no later than 4:00 p.m. on April 20. A link to the request form will be posted on the District 303 web page (district.d303.org) by 8:00 a.m. on April 7.
If you are requesting a transfer for more than one child, a separate request must be submitted for each. Due to fluctuating class sizes at schools and each grade level, siblings are not guaranteed placement. If granted, transportation is the responsibility of the parents. If you have questions about the process, please call the District office at 331.228.2000.
I wish all of you a restful and healthy Spring Break! Take care of each other…
Jarrod Buxton, Principal
