Announcements for All
- CADET Rehearsals are this week on Tuesday and Wednesday. Students should stay after school and head to the band room. Students must be picked up within 10 minutes of the end of rehearsal. If a student can't be picked up on time, you must contact info@dmsbands.org ASAP. Thanks!
- Please Download Before our Holiday Concert - Our Cadet Band has a little surprise in store for our Holiday Concert. Please take a moment to download the Jingle+ (Developer-Charlie Williams) app for iPhone or the Santa Sleigh, Christmas Bells 3D, Sleigh Bells Ring or Christmas Jingle Bells app for Android before our concert on December 5th. All apps should be free of charge.
- Second Round of BEDSHEET orders has ended.
- ALL BAND STUDENTS - UNIFORM CHECK: You'll need to wear a band uniform on Thursday to the concert. Cadet Beginners will supply their own black dress pants and white top. Intermediate Concert and Advanced Symphonic students will be required to wear the provided uniforms we fitted and ordered for each student. If you haven't paid, you must pay or give us a payment plan to get your uniform. Ordered uniforms need to be altered.
- All students must have working instruments and black binders for Thursday's concert!
- This concert counts as the FINAL EXAM grade for each student!
- We will NOT be able to host a silent auction for this concert. We didn't have a team put together of parents willing to head it up, so we were unable to squeeze it in. Maybe next time!
Second ORLANDO TRIP payment is past due. Second payment is $135. Please check newsletter for details and email info@dmsbands.org if you need a payment plan and missed a payment. These MUST be paid on time, or have a payment plan in place.

AFTER SCHOOL REHEARSALS:
Concert preparation requires that we rehearse with all three cadet band classes combined since they are separated during the day. These rehearsals are in the DMS band room the week after Thanksgiving break. Please make sure your student has a ride home.
Parents can pick up by parking in the big parking lot and texting your student when you arrive, or parking in the small side lot near the tennis courts (by the band room) and coming in to get your student. We have 123 members of beginner band, so please remain patient.
Thanks!
Tuesday 12/3 - 3:30-4:30
Wednesday 12/4 - 3:30-4:30
(DMS BANDS in concert on 12/5!)
All beginner band students should have a BLACK BINDER for the concert.
Each of our beginner classes is doing a phenomenal job! We know you will be so impressed with their progress when you hear them at our concert on December 5!
Call Time to report to the concert is 5:45pm on stage. Students can put their cases in the BJHS choir room behind the stage (there will be signs and parents helping guide where to go). Parents can go find a seat in the auditorium when they drop off.
Concert/Symphonic Bands
Uniforms have been distributed unless your student has not paid. We need a payment or a payment plan ASAP. Uniforms need to be hemmed, so you need them ASAP. If you don't have time to hem, you must pin them for the concert.
CONCERT IS THIS THURSDAY!!!! See you at BJHS!
SYMPHONIC BAND:
Your call time for the concert will be 5:15 on stage. We will try to get a good group photo to put into our program for UA honor band. All students must be in the picture.
CONCERT BAND: Your call time is 6pm. Once you put your case in the choir room, you can go sit in the audience so you can watch the Cadet Band before you perform.
Jazz band is just wearing the same uniform as Concert/Symphonic Band - nothing different.
Please email info@dmsbands.org if you have questions!
Holiday Concert JAZZ BAND
This week on Monday afternoon:
Holiday Jazz Band rehearsal (3:30-4:30) - Extra opportunity open to any members of Symphonic/Concert Band who want to learn a few fun jazz pieces for the Holiday Concert. (You do not have to be signed up for the Jazz Band class to participate!)
FUNDRAISING
Publix Fundraiser
The little tags that once linked to DMS Band are no longer valid. Publix is moving to a system similar to Kroger. To sign-up, you’ll need to go to www.publix.com or the Publix app on your phone. You will need to setup or sign-in to your existing account. Choose “My Publix Partner” and enter Discovery Middle School - Madison, AL.
Kroger Fundraiser
Signing up for Kroger rewards is one of the easiest ways you can fundraise for the band. You can link your existing card to DMS by following the information below.
Registration Instructions:
The Kroger Community Rewards program is an ideal way to support your favorite non-profit or
charity organization. The program allocates funds to participating organizations based on the purchases that registered members, family and friends of the organization have made at Kroger using their Kroger Plus card. Each individual should enroll their Kroger Plus Cards online at the Kroger secure website, www.krogercommunityrewards.com and then choose the organization they wish to support.
To use the Kroger Community Rewards Program:
1. Register your Kroger Plus card online at krogercommunityrewards.com
• Be sure to have your Kroger Plus card handy (you will need the number)
• If you do not yet have a Kroger Plus card, they are available at the customer service desk at any Kroger.
• Click on Sign In/Register
• Click on SIGN UP TODAY in the ‘New Customer?’ box (unless you have previously
registered online).
• Sign up for a Kroger Rewards Account by entering zip code, clicking on favorite store,
entering your email address and creating a password, agreeing to the terms and conditions
• You will then get a message to check your email inbox and click on the link within the body of the email to finalize card registration.
• Click on My Account and use your email address and password to proceed to the next step.
2. Link your card with DMS Band
• Log into your account at krogercommunityrewards.com
• Click on Edit Kroger Community Rewards information and input your Kroger Plus card
Number.

Tips:
• REMEMBER, purchases will not count for the DMS Band until after you have registered your card and linked it to the DMS Band
• If you use your phone number (alternateID) at the register instead of swiping your card, call 800-576-4377 and select option 4 to get your Kroger Plus card number.
• You must swipe your registered Kroger Plus card (or use the alternate ID that is associated
with your registered Kroger Plus card) when shopping for each purchase to count.
Recommended Reed Brands
Great for stocking stuffers!! :)
We recommend first year players start on a 2.5 strength reed and aim to move up to a size 3 by the second year of playing. Strength of reed should increase by the second year. We don't recommend anyone performing on higher than a 3.5.
1 - Vandoren
Compare strengths
2 - Rico Royal
Speaking of Stocking Stuffers...
Band Room Supply Wish List
-CANDY for bribing...we mean...encouraging our students! !
-Paper Towels
-Tissues
-Command Hooks
-Computer paper (white)
-Pencils (non-mechanical)
If you ever purchase reeds or any music supplies that don't work for your student, see if they can work as a donation to the program! For pricey donations we can provide a tax letter. Thanks!
