Fulmore Middle School

Week of April 21, 2019

Greetings Falcon Nation,

This week was another wonderful week at Lively (Fulmore)! The weather is warming up and it is beautiful outside. Several of our students have been competing in UIL and or other state competitions. Each program was awarded sweepstakes and/or will be advancing to state level competitions. Please congratulate teachers and students in the following programs:

  • Guitar
  • ChoirArt
  • Quiz Bowl
  • Math Club

Dress Code reminders

Please see attached dress code below. Students are expected to follow the dress code at all times. Administration reserves the right to have a student change if clothing is unsafe, inappropriate or a distraction to the learning environment.

Family Resource Fair- FREE PIZZA!

On May 9th from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Lively (Fulmore) is hosting a family resource fair. Door prizes available while supplies last. Families will also be able to complete online school registration on May 9th starting at 4:00 p.m. before the resource fair. As a reminder, all families are required to bring proof of residence and immunization records prior to the start of the next school year. If you have completed online registration, but still need to bring documentation, you may do so on May 9th. Come join us in our cafeteria for pizza, free resources, door prizes and registration. You won’t want to miss this event. Hope to see you there!

Safety and Campus Improvements

I know it has been a while since I have updated the community on the status of gates on campus. The construction is still scheduled to occur they are working on Joslin Elementary School’s gates first and Lively (Fulmore) is next on the list! Thank you for your patience as we continue to make the much needed security upgrades to our building. Student and staff safety is important and I will continue to advocate and support those improvements.

Other improvements to campus that will take place over the summer are painting of all academic areas and cleaning of the exterior building. I look forward to continuing the improvements to making our school look like the best school in Austin!

Earlier in the week a special message was sent out to all families regarding information I received about possible harassment of students. Students safety is important and all students should feel safe. Please continue to inform me of any concerns you or your children may have about their safety. If you missed the message, no problem, please see the following section for a recap of what was sent.

SchoolMessenger notice sent out Monday April 15th, 2019

Dear Falcon Families,

A recent parent Facebook post indicated that some students on campus are participating in forms of harassment against other students tied to a day of the week. The behavior described in the post is not acceptable and is a violation of the AISD Student Code of Conduct. Unfortunately, assigning days of the week, such as "Make-out Monday" is not something new for middle school students. This trend originated from a radio station years ago. I am amazed how this horrible pattern re-surges year- after-year. Fulmore MS does not condone this type of behavior. I encourage any student who has had this happen to them to report it immediately to a teacher, administrator or security and it is always best to do that right at the time of the incident.

Students who engage in this behavior can receive consequences such as, home suspension, or removal to the Alternative Learning Center pending a disciplinary hearing with the administration and parents. In some cases, law enforcement must get involved and misdemeanor, or felony charges could be filed; at minimum a police case is created. Therefore, engaging in this behavior is a serious offense and disciplinary action will be taken should any students engage in this behavior.

The assistant principals will discuss the consequences of engaging in this behavior during Advisory classes. The faculty will also be informed so that they can specifically monitor the halls for this behavior.

Please contact me if you have any questions. I can be reached by email at stacie.holiday@austinisd.org or by phone 52-414-3437.

Thank you for helping us keep Fulmore safe.

Leaving Your Legacy

All students are visiting with me during Advisory to sign the giant canvases. These will be glazed and place on campus. This year’s students are the last class of Fulmore Middle School and I would like for them to leave a little something behind. Several 8th grade students have already made their mark. I can’t wait to see the final product. Check out a sneak peek in the photo below.

Transition Camp

The 2019-2020 Lively Summer Transition Camp for incoming students will be August 5th, 6th, and 7th from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. This is a great opportunity for incoming students to make new friends and become comfortable on our campus. Students will engage in fun, team building, and curricular activities. We will have Transition Camp sign-up forms ready next week. Current Lively 6th and 7th graders are welcome to sign up to help with the camp in the Magnet Office or email jennifer.rodriguez@austinisd.org. Magnet students can earn community service hours by helping with the camp.

Easter Weekend

I hope that all of our students, families and staff have a wonderful Easter weekend. Please take time to spend special moments with the ones you love. Enjoy this three-day weekend and I will see you on Monday.

We are still in need of a few more volunteers to serve on the Lively PTSA board. If anyone is interested or has questions please be sure to contact Jennifer Parks <jenniferspannparks@gmail.com> and be sure to mark your calendar for our last general meeting which is coupled with the Parent Coffee. PTSA business, elections, and program about mental health on Monday, May 3rd at 7:45 a.m. in the Fulmore Library.

On May 17th, we will have our annual 8th grade Magnet Dinner in the Fulmore Cafeteria from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. This is a wonderful event where we celebrate our Falcons taking flight to high school. A pasta dinner with lasagna, vegetarian and gluten free options will be served. Tickets are $10.00 a piece and may be purchased through the magnet office through Friday, May 10th. It is also our tradition to ask our 7th grade Magnet students and parents to help set-up, serve, and clean-up so that our 8th grade families can celebrate.

The highlight of the evening features a slide show with two pictures of each of our 8th graders, one from their childhood and one current. We also like to provide our 8th graders with a small gift. We need your help to make this event special. Please email Ms. Northcutt if you can assist with the following:

  1. Creating the Falcons Take Flight Slide Show (Ms. Northcutt has a template for this).
  2. Donating desserts for the dinner
  3. Donating money to fund a gift for our 8th graders
  4. Securing a gift for our 8th graders to remember their time at Fulmore Magnet.
  5. 7th grade students and parents who can help set-up from 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m., serve dinner from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m., or clean up from 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.

We would like to have all of the pictures of our 8th graders and donations in by Friday, May 10th so that we have the following week to prepare. Thanks so much for your help, we hope to see all of you at the dinner!
