Our Capturing Kids' Hearts Word of the month is Courage!

What is Courage?

Courage is the ability and strength to face something that may be difficult or challenging. Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather perseverance in the presence of fear and the willingness to stand up for what is right or try something new even though it may be uncomfortable or uncertain.

Why focus on Courage?

  • Courage encourages engagement. Courage helps students raise their hand, participate, try new things, and voice their opinions.
  • Courage builds self-confidence. Courage is the choice to act. By doing something, students increase their belief in themselves and their ability to do difficult or challenging things.
  • Courage can help reframe a negative. When something does not go as planned or a student gets upset about a mistake or failure, courage can help reframe the event in a positive light.

REMINDERS

Early Dismissal Procedures

Parents/Guardians, please remember that you must come into the office and show your ID before your student will be called from class to leave early. We know time is of the essence but we must follow student check-out procedures. Calling the front office to say that you are on the way, will not expedite the check-out process.

Late Arrival Procedures

Parents MUST walk their students into the office after 7:30 a.m.

Attendance Reminders!

Tardies

Warning Bell: 7:20 AM

Tardy Bell: 7:30 AM

School begins at 7:30 AM Students should be in their seats at this time. Students arriving after the tardy bell rings must be accompanied by an adult to the front office, sign in, and receive a tardy slip.

Official Attendance Time

Attendance is “official” at 9:30

If your student is not in the building at 9:30 AM they are officially marked absent unless a doctor’s note is provided. Students arriving after 9:30 AM without a doctor’s note will be marked absent for the day.

When Do You Need an Excuse Note?

  • Please submit an excuse note any time your student is absent. You can enter an absence request through Skyward, email (submit to kori.ellis@misd.gs AND your student’s teacher), or a handwritten excuse note.

  • Please provide a doctor’s note after every office visit. These can be turned in at the front office or emailed to kori.ellis@misd.gs.
