School Talk With The Doc!
I know there are still questions that many of you have and I want to make myself available to answer those. Myself along with the Community Involvement Committee would like to continue hosting "School Talk with the Doc!" These will be virtual conversations via zoom where parents can log in and ask questions or pose discussions regarding what is happening at Waggoner Road Junior High.
Log-in information will be sent out a few days before each opportunity, but for planning purposes, here are the scheduled dates for November:
Wednesday November 11th @ 8:00 AM
Monday November 16th @ 6:00 PM
Please note that in the interim if you have any urgent questions feel free to contact the school.
These conversations are hosted and conducted with the building administration.
Hybrid 4-Days per week
For example - STUDENTS WITH LAST NAMES A-K:
- Students who are Hybrid, will attend school face-to-face Monday & Tuesday of each week.
- These same students will then log into class on Thursday and Friday (BASED ON THE BELL SCHEDULE BELOW) and attend classes virtually as they had been before.
Exception:
- Hybrid and virtual students last names A-K only log into ACADEMIC EXTENSION on Monday & Tuesday and will not log into Academic Extension on Thursday and Friday.
For example - STUDENTS WITH LAST NAMES L-Z:
- Students who are Hybrid, will attend school face-to-face Thursday & Friday of each week.
- These same students will log into class on Monday & Tuesday (BASED ON THE BELL SCHEDULE BELOW) and attend classes virtually as they had been before.
Exception:
- Hybrid and virtual students last names L-Z only log into ACADEMIC EXTENSION on Thursday & Friday and will not log into Academic Extension on Monday & Tuesday.
Wednesday's
Students are sometimes requested to meet with their academic teachers on Wednesday's for assistance, make-up work, enhancement, etc. This is also a time for parent meetings as the teachers host individual office hours on these days.
There are no structured full classes during this time with the exception of gym.
Please note: If your student is requested to attend a small-group session and does not attend, THEY WILL BE MARKED ABSENT FROM THAT COURSE ON WEDNESDAY.
Please ensure that your student is checking in with their teacher and following up with their email account to verify if they have a teacher they need to check in with on those days. Typically the small group times with teachers occur between the hours of 9-10 AM, with teacher office hours open from 12-1:30 PM.
The following Wednesdays, no Teacher will be available due to professional Development time.
- Wednesday October 21, 2020

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Due to the need to acclimate hybrid students to the building, Monday and Thursday of this week will be asynchronous (meaning students will work on their own) for virtual students.
On Monday October 19 ONLY - A-K VIRTUAL students will ONLY log into their Advisory period on that day. After they do an introduction they will work the remainder of the day on their own.
On Thursday October 22 ONLY - L-Z VIRTUAL students will ONLY log into their Advisory period on that day. After they do an introduction they will work the remainder of the day on their own.
This is due to the fact that it will be the first day of face-to-face for the students who are hybrid and we need to have all teachers available to acclimate the students to the protocols for the building.
Gym Classes
I repeat, virtual gym students will only have class on Wednesday due to the electronic capabilities of the building. We are unable to do a face-to-face gym course along side a virtual one.
Please note the gym course your student is in and not the times they will meet.
PE 1 - Wednesday 9 - 9:45 am
PE 2 - Wednesday 9:45 - 10:30 am
Subsequently, Monday & Tuesday hybrid students will ONLY have gym class on those days and will not be expected to log into that course on Thursday and Friday and thus:
Thursday and Friday hybrid students will ONLY have gym class on those days and will not be expected to log into that course on Monday and Tuesday.
Grading Policies
Being the middle framework for the transition to high school we want to ensure that students are taking responsibility for their work and have a clear understanding of the expectations of their assignments and how their grades are calculated.
With grades coming out soon, we want to ensure that the policy is shared with parents.
WRJH executes the following grading policy:
7th grade:
- 70% Formative
- 30% Summative
8th grade:
- 60% Formative
- 40% Summative
Formative Assignments refers to a wide variety of methods that teachers use to conduct in-process evaluations of student comprehension, learning needs, and academic progress during a lesson, unit, or course. Formative assessments help teachers identify concepts that students are struggling to understand, skills they are having difficulty acquiring, or learning standards they have not yet achieved so that adjustments can be made to lessons, instructional techniques, and academic support. The general goal of formative assessment is to collect detailed information that can be used to improve instruction and student learning while it’s happening, to inform in-process teaching and learning modifications.
Summative Assignments are used to evaluate student learning progress and achievement at the conclusion of a specific instructional period—usually at the end of a project, unit, course, semester, program, or school year. In other words, formative assessments are for learning, while summative assessments are of learning.
Beginning 2nd grading period we will also execute a standard late assignment policy.
School-Wide 7th Grade Late Assignment Policy
To earn full credit for an assignment students must submit assignments by the due date set by the teacher. Late assignments will be accepted for two weeks past the due date for partial credit. Partial credit will be awarded based on the following guidelines:
First Week: 10 percent taken off final grade of the assignment.
Second Week: 20 percent take off final grade of the assignment.
Assignments that are not completed will be marked “Missing”, and will have an orange box next to the grade in Power School.
All late assignments (meaning the assignment was turned in, but after the deadline date) will be marked “Late,” and will have a red box next to the grade in Power School.
After the two-week period, assignments will be marked “Incomplete,” and will have a blue box next to the grade in Power School. Once they are marked as “Incomplete” then CANNOT be submitted.
*Students with IEPs or 504 plans will be provided separate accommodations based on their individual plans.
School-Wide 8th Grade Late Assignment Policy
To earn full credit for an assignment students must submit assignments by the due date set by the teacher. Late assignments will be accepted for two weeks past the due date for partial credit. Partial credit will be awarded based on the following guidelines:
Day 1: -10%
Day 2: -20%
Day 3: -30%
Day 4: -40%
Days 5: Half-Credit
Assignments that are not completed will be marked “Missing”, and will have an orange box next to the grade in Power School.
All late assignments (meaning the assignment was turned in, but after the deadline date) will be marked “Late,” and will have a red box next to the grade in Power School.
