From Colleges & Careers Counselor Joni Martin
I wanted to remind you of upcoming SAT and ACT testing dates. If you are planning on applying to colleges next year, it is very important to take the SAT and ACT this year. You do not want to wait until next year to take the SAT or the ACT for the first time because college applications open up August 1. Colleges will accept either the SAT or the ACT- they do not require both. We recommend taking the test that includes the essay/writing part as some colleges may require the writing section. We also encourage students to take the SAT/ACT more than once because many colleges super-score.
Also take advantage of the send official score reports option to colleges when registering for the tests because most institutions require test scores to be sent from the testing companies and will not accept them off the transcript. It is best do this when registering for the test(s) rather than waiting until after your scores come back as fees for sending scores to colleges can add up.
Please see below for a list of SAT and ACT dates remaining this year. Visit www.act.org and www.sat.org for more information.

Don’t forget that we have SAT Test Prep available in Naviance. The Naviance SAT Test Prep can be found on the home page of Naviance under “Resources to get ready.” We highly encourage you to take advantage of the SAT prep tool to prepare for the SAT. A prep guide and video are available in Naviance in the section labeled “From My School.” Both the SAT and ACT websites have additional test prep resources available too. If you have forgotten how to log into Naviance, your username is your Student ID# and your password is your 8-digit birthday (no spaces or dashes). Senior Year Immunizations
Student Health – Immunization Requirements
Senior year is creeping up slowly but steadily! There are some immunizations that must be handled before the start of their 12th grade year. If your junior is schedule to have a physical in the next few months, please discuss with your physician the timing of these required immunizations. Some insurances will not cover two physicals within twelve-month time span, and so you may need to get your student caught up on these shots now. Beginning in 2014, all students are required to update their vaccinations for grade 12.
Requirements are:
●Hepatitis A (2 doses) now required for grades 4, 6 and 12
●HPV has been added as a recommendation for grades 6-12
●Annual influenza has been added as a recommendation for all ages.
●Meningococcal MCV4 second dose is still a requirement for grade 12.
(Please note: Meningococcal Serogroup B (MenB) has remained a recommendation for grade 12.)
Please do not hesitate to contact our Clinic staff with any questions or concerns. They can be reached at (317) 852-2258 Ext. 1503 or by emailing relam@brownsburg.k12.in.us or mcarrel@brownsburg.k12.in.us

Hendricks County Career Fair - Thursday April 25
Plainfield High School is hosting a Hendricks County Career Fair next Thursday, April 25th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. There will also be a workshop from 6:15 – 7:15 that will help students identify the right career based on their interests/strengths. See below for information we have received regarding the career fair.
The Hendricks County Career Fair is Thursday, April 25th from 6-8 pm at Plainfield High School. This is a great opportunity for students that are looking to start a career after high school or might be seeking specific certificate or associate degree programs. This year, we have identified key industries in Hendricks County, and the surrounding area, that offer fantastic, in-demand careers that do not require a four-year degree. These fields include healthcare, aviation, logistics, manufacturing, and a few skilled trades. Not only will companies within these fields be available to meet with students and adults, but educational programs from Ivy Tech, Vincennes University, and IU Health will also be in attendance to discuss their certificate and associate degree programs.

Camp Healing Tree August 23-25
Camp Healing Tree is a special weekend camp for grieving children and teens ages 7 to 17
Do you know a young person who would benefit from a weekend of grief support, encouragement and enjoyable activities? Camp Healing Tree is an opportunity for grieving young people to be with friends their age who have also had a loved one die and share the big feelings, thoughts and changes they experience through grief. By connecting in peer-based age groups, kids and teens find relief in knowing that they are not alone on the journey of grief.
Established in 1995 by a team of devoted volunteers and community supporters, Camp Healing Tree became a program of Brooke's Place in 2018. Under the supervision of professional staff, the camp utilizes over 100 screened and trained volunteers to provide a safe, supportive environment to share one's grief through a variety of expressive activities.
Although the camp focuses on grief, there are many fun activities for campers to enjoy, such as swimming, arts and crafts, games, campfire, group discussions and outdoor adventures. Activities are facilitated by supportive volunteers to gently teach coping skills and build self-esteem and trust. While the camp environment is rustic, the cabins are modern and air-conditioned. A registered nurse will be at the camp at all times.
Camp Healing Tree, located on the west side of Indianapolis at Jameson Camp, Inc., begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and concludes after the 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service for the camp participants and their families on Sunday.
