Principal's Message
Welcome to our Week 9 newsletter. What a busy and exciting week we have had. On Monday our hall upgrade and 10 new classrooms were officially handed over to us. There are still some outstanding works to be completed, but rest assured once this is completed, we will be inviting parents and students to come on a tour to see the wonderful new classrooms. We are so grateful to have these beautiful new spaces for our students to learn in.
Reports
Our teachers have been very busy writing reports over the past month. This week I have had the privilege of reading every report before they are sent home with students on Monday. I must say how impressed I am with the great learning that is taking place in all of our classrooms. I congratulate all students on their efforts and thank our teachers for the many weeks, days and hours you have put into preparing such high quality reports.
Presentation Days
What a great honour and privilege it has been over the last two days to attend our 3-6, K-2 Presentation days and our Sport Presentation Day. We were excited to hold these events in our newly refurbished hall which looks fantastic. The final work is due to be completed on the hall next week, then our floors will be beautifully varnished. Congratulations to all students who received awards and also to all classes for their respectful behaviour. The weather on Tuesday was particularly hot and I was impressed with our students who sat quietly throughout our formal ceremonies.

I was proud to announce our 2020 Student Prime Ministers, Deputy Prime Ministers and Ministers at Tuesday's Presentation Day. Congratulations to:

Teacher Awards
Today I was very proud of our amazing teachers. Our Director of Educational Leadership visited Prestons to award three of our amazing teachers with a special Directors award. Congratulations to Mrs Beavis, (outstanding contributions to our school as an executive staff member) Miss Rigas (outstanding teaching by an Early Career Teacher) and Ms Ross (Outstanding contributions to our school in her role as a Learning and Support Teacher). Earlier in the year, Mrs Heidi Finnerty, one of our amazing SLSOs was presented with a Network Award to acknowledge her hard work and dedication and commitment to our students. We are so fortunate to have such amazing staff at our school.
Staffing
Mrs Marinovic (Miss Brown) held off on having her baby until after Sports Presentation Day. She was very determined to see this day. She has now commenced her maternity leave. Mr Montgomery will be teaching Sharks for the remainder of the year. We wish Mrs Marinovic and her husband all the best for their new baby.
Our Prestons Babies
Congratulations to Mrs McEachran and her husband on the birth of their beautiful little girl. She is simply beautiful. We have so many adorable babies who have joined our Prestons family this year, Mr and Mrs Lloyd and their beautiful little girl, Mrs Garland and her handsome little man, Mrs Khoury and her husband with their beautiful little boy, Mrs Ferreri and her husband and their beautiful little girl, Mrs Azzi and her husband with their beautiful little girl. We will let you know when Mrs Wall, Mrs Marinovic and Mrs Eliaali have their babies.
Social Media
Social Media is a growing issue in todays society. While most social media platforms are for over 13 years, many of our young students do have social media accounts. This is not recommended as young children do not have the maturity to safely engage in these platforms. There have been several social media incidents recently. The school takes cyber bullying very seriously and we ask that all parents monitor their child's social media use.
1. Understand the application and social media sites that your child is using . - know their passwords and be able to see what they are saying/sharing.
2. Set rules for social media use in your home
3. Teach your child about sharing information responsibly
4. Ensure that your child understands the implications of their online behaviours
5. Help your child to deal with cyberbullying - block, report, delete
6. Be a role model
Student Issues
Parents are reminded that they should not approach other children at school. If you have any concerns about your child and the actions of another child, you must contact the school so that we can deal with your concerns. Thank you for making sure that all students at Prestons Public School feel safe and happy at school.
Smoke and Poor Air Quality
With the terrible air quality due to the bush fires we are monitoring air quality on a daily basis. Based on this information we are making daily decisions about lunch and recess. In the past week we have had mostly indoor play. This is to ensure that our students and staff are kept safe.
Have a wonderful last week at school and don't forget to ask your child what they are learning.

Classroom Chat with 1/2 Macaws
1/2 Macaws have had a fantastic year filled with many exciting learning experiences and lots of fun! Throughout the year we have worked as a team and have created many amazing friendships along the way.
This term we were very lucky to have made a trip to the movies to see Frozen 2, we think that Olaf and Sven are the funniest characters ever. We also completed the fun run which was so crazy! We loved watching all the teachers get paint thrown on them.
Our favourite thing to do in class is to play maths games together, we love cheering each other on!
We are looking forward to next year and all the exciting this that it will bring.
Classroom Chat with 3 Jellyfish
3 Jellyfish have been working hard in Term 4. We have been learning about how the Sun and Moon affect the Earth. 3 Jellyfish understand how the Earth’s rotation causes day and night, and how its tilt causes the seasons. We have also been investigating how and why shadows change throughout the day.
3 Jellyfish were also very excited to finally get to participate in the Colour Explosion!! We had a lot of fun!!
