19-20 Kindergarten Screener/Visit
Do you have a child who will be in Kindergarten next school year (2019-2020)? Or, do you know someone who does? Please see below:
Welcome to Amanda Moore Elementary School, home of the Bulldogs! We are honored you selected Amanda Moore Elementary School and we take the responsibility of providing your child with exciting and engaging educational experience very seriously. The transition from preschool or home to kindergarten is a very important one and our work make that transition as smooth as possible begins now!
Our outstanding team of educators have developed a transition activity which contains 4 valuable experiences designed to aid your child in the transition.
Experience 1- A classroom visit where you and your child can witness our current kindergarten teachers and students in action so you have a clear idea of what next year will be like.
Experience 2 - Engaging families in literacy a brief meeting with Mrs. Tobiczyk our reading specialist while children play.
Experience 3 - A school readiness screener (a brief assessment of readiness skills to aid in class assignments for the fall) and a gift a school readiness games and manipulatives to help you prepare your child for the fall.
Experience 4 - School tour with a snack in the cafeteria.
Our visit is scheduled for Tuesday, May 7, 2019. You can select from a morning session (8:30-10:30) or an afternoon session (12:30-2:30).
We know not everyone will be able to attend on Tuesday so we have three other abbreviated visits available. The other visits will only be one hour in duration and certain portions of the experience such as #2 will be eliminated while others will be shortened.
We look forward to seeing everyone in May!
Green School Environmental Tip
The last thing you want to do is dump toxic chemicals into the environment in the name of cleaning, right? These days, you don’t have to make a special trip to the natural foods store to seek out environmentally-sensitive cleaning products.
If you're up for a DIY challenge, you can make your own natural homemade cleaners yourself. It's easier than you might think! The basic supplies you’ll need to make your own green cleaners include:
Distilled white vinegar (sold in the cooking section of most supermarkets)
Baking soda
Olive oil
Borax (sold in a box in the laundry aisle)
Liquid castile soap (like Dr. Bronner's brand, found in most natural foods stores)
Essential oils (super concentrated natural plant oils found in natural foods stores, usually in the cosmetics section)
Microfiber cleaning cloths
Newspaper
Here are a few basic “recipes” and techniques to get you started:
Glass: Mix 1/4 cup vinegar with one quart of water in a spray bottle. Spray on glass and wipe clean with old newspaper or a lint-free cloth.
Countertops and bathroom tile: Mix two parts vinegar and one part baking soda with four parts water. Apply with a sponge, scour and wipe away.
Floors: Mix four cups of white distilled vinegar with about a gallon of hot water. If desired, add a few drops of pure peppermint or lemon oil for a pleasant scent. After damp mopping the floors, the smell of vinegar will dissipate quickly, leaving behind only the scent of the oil.
Wood furniture: Mix equal parts lemon juice and olive and oil. Apply a small amount to a cloth and rub onto the furniture in long, even strokes.
Toilet bowl cleaner: Sprinkle a toilet brush with baking soda and scrub away! Occasionally disinfect your toilet by scrubbing with borax instead. Wipe the outside of the toilet with straight vinegar.
Disinfectant: Mix two teaspoons borax, four tablespoons vinegar, three cups hot water and 1/4 teaspoon liquid castile soap. Wipe on with dampened cloth or use a spray bottle. Wipe clean.
Mold and mildew: Wipe with straight vinegar.
Air freshener: Sprinkle essential oil on a cotton ball and stash it in a corner of the room. If you have kids, make sure it's out of their reach, as essential oils are very strong and could irritate their skin. Lavender is a relaxing scent that is great for bedrooms, while cinnamon, clove and citrus oils are great for the rest of the house. You can stash a few in the car, too—try peppermint, which may help you stay alert.
