Spartan Spotlight
News from Broad Run HS from the Week of June 11
From the Principal
Students and Families,
The 19-20 school year is over. It did not end the way we had hoped. Congratulations to the students and staff who worked hard to adjust to a new normal and do their very best. While we do not know precise guidance on how we will implement the 20-21 school year, we can predict there will be variations that will again require us to adapt and do our very best.
Congratulations to the class of 2020. Your positive attitude will have a lasting impact on Broad Run. We wish you the very best in your post-secondary pursuits, and please do visit if and when you can.
Returning students, please makes sure your course requests are 100% correct, and have a great summer. We look forward to working with you in the fall. Be ready for a school year like no other. Go Spartans!

From the Art Department: The 2020 Congressional Art Competition
We have students that submitted artwork to this exhibit which is open to all LCPS High School students each year. The exhibit is usually held at George Washington University and celebrated with a reception. I wanted to share the vision, messages and beauty of the creative visual arts students that are among us at BR and in Loudoun County.

Attention all mathematics students. Afraid of getting a little rusty over the summer? Love math and never seem to have enough practice? Want to start the 2020-2021 school year off strong? Please check out the mathematics page on the BRHS website for recommended summer practice.
Practice assignments are separated by course. Have a question? Email anyone from the math department and we will be happy to help you!
Want some actual one-on-one help leading up to the first day of school? Mu Alpha Theta hosts a "summer refresher" every summer in August to help ease math anxiety leading into the new year. The tentative dates are 8/4, 8/11 and 8/18 but details are TBD as LCPS guidelines for August are still unclear.
We miss you, we hope you have a fantastic summer, and we can not wait to see you soon!

Hello everyone. For our Spring Choral Concert every year, the choir and alum sing an arrangement of James Taylor's "That Lonesome Road".
Although we didn't have our actual concert, we kept the tradition alive by performing it as virtual choir. Current students and alumni contributed videos, and I would like to share their video with you all on this "last day of school."
Enjoy! I think you recognize a lot of the faces and voices!

To the Class of 2020
To the class of 2020,
Who would have guessed that your graduation would be moved from the campus of George Mason University to the portico of Broad Run High School? In typical Broad Run fashion, these 360 did not wallow in remorse but proudly strolled across our newly constructed platform, decorated for graduation, that stood in front of the Broad Run entrance. Although it was not the usual graduation, this time proved extremely memorable for the graduates and families. As each graduate and family graced the Broad Run hallways for one final tour, they were greeted by staff members who provided them directives to help them reach their awaited destination. Smiles and tears accompanied these graduates as they received their diplomas and were greeted by Mr. Spage. The only thing left were celebrations and more pictures. Some may feel sorry for the class of 2020 for missing out on the typical graduation, but this class proved there would not be anything normal about this day. So, to the class of 2020, this is definitely not the end but only your beginning.
Sincerely,
Darnell Barbour
