From the Parkway Early Learning Director:

Dear Early Childhood Families,

The fall weather is officially upon us and we are thrilled to continue our outdoor learning activities across all sites! It has been exciting to watch our teachers take students outside for center time, class meetings, project work and even lunchtime. We are finding ways to take all the rich learning that we typically do inside and bring it outside. Our teachers are tracking the number of hours we spend outside and our parent educators are even having some home visits outdoors. Each preschool site will be having a competition to see who can come up with the best music wall (pictures below) before November 14. If you have any old pots, pans or stainless steel water bottles, I am sure your child's teacher will put them to great use if you send them to school. If any families would like to get involved in helping to assemble our creations, please let your child's teacher know.

We are anticipating having full occupancy of our Early Childhood Center on Clayton Road by the first week of November. There has been a slight delay with the construction due to some challenges with the supply chain and certain items on backorder. We thank you for your patience as we work through construction challenges and look forward to welcoming families to come to celebrate our beautiful renovations in the near future. We will be hosting our first family event on November 12 in partnership with Be Together STL. We are excited to invite our families back on campus and will have fun activities for kids, parenting talks, snacks and a free book for every student. Our focus will be on healthy social-emotional well-being with a large emphasis on nature and outdoor learning. More information will be coming soon!

We also want to share information about Proposition S which will be on the upcoming November ballot. This is a $265 million no-tax rate increase that would have a great impact on our schools and playgrounds. We are most excited about a new southside early childhood center that would be built with this bond and allow us to expand the number of students we could serve in early childhood. More information is included below.

Wishing you all a beautiful October!

This month our preschool teachers will continue to monitor the progress of each learner and provide developmentally appropriate experiences that support students' goals. We are excited about Launching a new report card this year. We started working on our Panda Progress Report in the summer of 2021 and had a few teachers pilot the report card last year. We made some revisions and are excited to roll it out to all classrooms this year. Here is a copy of our Top 10 Missouri Early Learning Standards that Teachers will be reporting on 3 times this year (October, January, and May). Here are the Missouri Learning Standards in their entirety if you are wanting to see what might be developmentally appropriate in each of the areas. Teachers will reach out to families to schedule 15-minute conference times in the coming weeks. Various times will be offered as we want to partner with families and are working towards 100% of families participating in conferences. Teachers will be offering evening conferences on:

  • Wren

Starting Soon!

Partners in Play (formerly the Parent-Child Interaction Program PCIP) offers affordable fun classes for parents and children to enjoy together. Some classes are designed for specific ages and provide developmental information to parents. Other classes utilize a thematic approach (i.e. cooking, science, art, music and movement or motor development). These popular classes strengthen children's skills through exploration, discovery and creative experiences. Formal and informal discussions provide supportive parenting information. We will offer a small selection of classes to finish off the Fall 2022 semester. Look for expanded offerings coming this Winter and Spring.
