How is this different from the One-Day (6CE) IFS-Informed EMDR?

Similar content as One-Day, though updated, plus practice exercises with coaching. You will benefit even more from this experiential workshop.

Limited spaces! Register early.

These workshops are limited to 30 participants due to the highly experiential practice-focused nature of the course. There is a 1:3 staff-to-learner ratio with highly qualified Guides supervising/coaching multiple practice sessions. It is anticipated they will sell out.
Register---IFS-Informed EMDR 2-Day

Registration is open until one day before workshop, unless maximum number of 30 participants is reached before then.

Program Description

A two-full-day didactic & experiential workshop offering a specific view of ego-states, in the context of EMDR therapy through an IFS lens, regarding their ubiquitous appearance, defenses, & relational phenomena. A conceptual bridge is formed between the two models, yielding additional language to enrich therapist-client communication about the client’s internal process, and much more.

Understand the importance of Self-Presence and the co-presence or activation of a Target Part in relationship to the Self. Cultivate and maintain Functional Dual Attention in the Assessment & Desensitization Phases using measurement scales (beyond SUD & VOC) relating to Self-Energy, state-binding affect & protective intention.

Alignment with Memory Reconsolidation research ala Coherence Therapy for additional precision in targeting underlying implicit memories, to increase the accuracy of identifying and elaborating appropriate positive and negative cognitions in the Assessment Phase.

These methods will be demonstrated live with participant volunteers, and significant supervised practice time is planned for participants to learn by doing.

The content of this course is evidence-based.

There is no known commercial support nor conflict of interest for this program.

Prerequisite

At Syzygy Institute, we require that anyone being trained to integrate the two models are first fully trained in EMDR, and secondly have a fundamental experiential understanding of IFS. Nothing is better for that purpose than Level One Training by the IFS-Institute. We recognize that IFS Level One training is costly, time-consuming, and currently there are substantial waiting lists and lottery systems to get in.

To fill the gap for those EMDR therapists unable to obtain IFS Level One, we have developed Intro to IFS for EMDR Therapists workshop as a basic requirement to fulfill before attending the IFS-Informed EMDR 2-day workshop.

Those EMDR therapists who have started or completed an IFS Level One do not need to take Intro to IFS for EMDR Therapists to qualify for this workshop.

The workshop does not provide training in either model. It assumes participants have knowledge of both. Reading IFS doesn't quite do it sometimes. There is a process aspect to it, and experiential, video, or demo exposure gets that across in a way that reading does not. If you do not meet this requirement, use the time before the workshop to meet the IFS prerequisite.

Our experience has shown that participants with minimal IFS experience struggle to integrate the material, especially in practice exercises. If you haven't already begun to use IFS principles in your practice, you will not optimally benefit from the workshop.

Course Objectives

  1. Identify one advantageous aspect of the IFS concept of Self that is not explicitly included in EMDR’s Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) system.
  2. Explain the relationship between Functional Dual Attention and Self-Presence.
  3. Describe the concept of energy as it applies to Protective Parts and how this can be measured and processed within EMDR.
  4. Describe the concept of energy as it applies to qualities of Self and how these can be measured and installed as a resource within EMDR.
  5. Identify at least one way that IFS language can used in obtaining a NC, PC or VOC.
  6. Compile an IFS-Informed Assessment Phase target.
  7. Practice shifting targets from exile to protector, using IFS-Informed scales in Desensitization Phase.
  8. Describe & practice at least 3 IFS Interweaves in Desensitization Phase.
  9. Identify a third type of processing (beside resources and desensitization) with bilateral stimulation named after a stage of Coherence Therapy.
  10. Describe and practice obtaining precise negative cognitions in the Assessment Phase using Coherence Therapy concepts.
  11. Discuss your relationship with your parts-as-therapist based on the IFS model.

Big picture

Meet our trainers:

This dedicated team has assisted Bruce in recent years and are stepping into presenter and trainer roles in our mission to extend IFS-Informed EMDR training availability to meet the growing demand.

Background of Syzygy Institute

Syzygy Institute, a partnership between Bruce Hersey and Michelle Richardson, is the culmination of Bruce's 15 years developing and teaching a systematic integration of the models: IFS-Informed EMDR. It is the mission of Syzygy to provide high quality advanced integrative training in these converging healing models within a connected community atmosphere, and establish a certification program based upon recognized training in both models and progression through advanced integration courses.

EMDR therapists have become familiar with the helpful notion of ego states, which frequently inhabit our workspace when attempting to process traumas with our (quite commonly) complex clients. Many have identified Internal Family Systems (IFS) as a user-friendly comprehensive ego state model, and are eager to learn an integration of EMDR and IFS.

Those EMDR therapists who have started or completed an IFS Level One do not need to take Intro to IFS for EMDR Therapists to qualify for our main course; the IFS-Informed EMDR 2-day workshop.

To fill the gap for those EMDR therapists unable to obtain IFS Level One, we have developed Intro to IFS for EMDR Therapists workshop as a basic requirement to fulfill before attending the IFS-Informed EMDR 2-day workshop.

We then offer an advanced IFS-Informed EMDR course: Discovery & Beyond 2-day IFS-Informed EMDR Advanced Experiential.

Advancing through these workshops with additional approved consultation, in addition to specified requirements in the separate models, will be the path to an IFS-Informed EMDR certification.

Steps of SYZYGY IFS-EMDR Integration Program

Syzygy Step One --

Intro to IFS for EMDR Therapists 2-day:

Experiential introduction to IFS model with guided practice. Meets minimal IFS experience requirements to advance to Step Two. Waived with IFS Level One training (which is preferred).

Syzygy Step Two --

IFS-Informed EMDR 2-day: Provides overall integration rationale and systematic strategies, introducing relevant ideas from Coherence Therapy addressing memory reconsolidation. Prerequisite for Step Three.

Syzygy Step Three --

Discovery & Beyond 2-day: Deepens understanding and application of IFS-Informed EMDR in Direct Access conditions; working with blended protectors, further integrating Coherence Therapy concepts.
