Happy Holidays from the Curriculum Department!
We extend a heartfelt thank you for your dedication to excellence and wish you a fabulous and rejuvenating holiday!
Instructional Innovation
Layne and Wood said that students were struggling with the concept of multiplying with integers and could not understand why two negatives made a positive. The creative teachers made this life-sized number line in order to help students "live" the math. Talk about real life application!!
Math Manipulative Mania!
Math teachers have been undergoing intense instruction on how to teach the new math TEKS. This is translating into the use of more manipulatives being used in the classroom as well as students learning to represent equations in multiple ways. Ferris ISD is definitely doing everything possible to prepare students for the new math TEKS!

DAILY 5
Of course our hearts melted when we saw these students at Ingram using their iPads in a Daily 5 center. Notice how all of their iGuys are upside down. This reinforces the idea that students need to be able to access their resources in a manner that benefits them. Hats off to Ms. Hope for setting up the perfect learning environment!
If you would like to know more about Daily 5, email Nies and she will send you a copy of of the book by Gail Boushey & Joan Moser.
