Pratt's Primary Corner

Weekly Update- September 22, 2017

Week at a Glance

Reading- We have almost finished Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library. This has been such an engaging and suspenseful book! Many students are planning on reading the 2nd book of the series on their own. :) Miss Pratt is still BAS testing students during guided reading, but this will be finished by next week and guided reading groups will begin.

Math- This week I feel like we took a lot of math tests. :( Students took a pre-test which will help measure their growth throughout the school year. Today we took our unit 1 math test. Monday we will begin Unit 2, which focuses on multiplication.

Social Studies/Science- This week we finished our book A Landforms Adventure, and learned about many new landforms- all while studying non-fiction text features. Next week we will start a culminating project where students will create their own landform map!

Writing- Now that we've learned about the parts of opinion writing and brainstormed some new ideas, we will begin our own opinion writing. Today students chose from 4 different opinion topics and started reading 2 non-fiction text selections about the topic. Next week they will begin writing their own opinion paper on the topic. This will help prepare them for the Ohio State Reading test coming up in October.

Click here to see the homework menu for the week. You only have to chose one activity from each column. Remember, it's not due until next Friday and the Design Challenge is optional.

Scholastic Book Orders- THANK YOU!!

Thanks to your Scholastic Book orders we were able to earn EVERY STUDENT a free book, $20 in free books for our class and 500 bonus points to order more FREE books throughout the school year.

This is so exciting for our class!!! Today we voted on which books to purchase with the $20 and students are super excited!!! :)

If you missed this order, the October magazine will be coming home in a few weeks.

ALEKS

Today, a letter is in your child's red folder, explaining ALEKS, the online, supplemental math program we will be using this year. Students completed their knowledge check today and can begin working on the program.

Use of this program will not be required of students, but they can earn prizes at school for completing topics.
