McAvinnue's Community Newsletter: Week Of June 5th

McAvinnue's Principal's Message

Hello McAvinnue Community!

The last few weeks of school could be the craziest time of the school year for both of our students and faculty. We have Grade 4 visiting the Wang Middle School, McAvinnue's "Paw"tastic Field Day, various classroom celebrations, and more over the next 12 school days. It's important to remain engaged with notices and reminders that will be sent out by your child's teacher and the school directly. There will be alot coming your way and you don't want to miss out!

Please keep in mind that many of our activities over the next 2 weeks will be outdoors. Please apply a generous layer of high-SPF sunscreen in the morning before school to prevent burns from sun exposure. Also, freezing a water bottle overnight is recommended for hydration. We do have drinking fountains available at school. Please do not send students to school in flip-flops or other backless shoes as these pose a safety hazard while running and playing at school and during various end of the school year events/activities.

As you know, we have rescheduled McAvinnue's "Paw"tastic Field Day to Thursday, June 8th. As of now, the weather looks to be somewhat unstable. The temperature look to be a pleasant 64 degrees...however, there is a 60% chance of predicted showers with the strongest chance of rain occuring starting at 1:00 PM. We will continue to monitor the weather and make final decision on Wednesday, June 7th.

We are planning to hold the Grade 4 "Move Up" Graduation Ceremony on Friday, June 16th at starting at 10:00 AM. Families can arrive at 9:45 AM to find a seat in the gymnasium. We are not putting a hard cap on guests and should have enough seating available including some overflow options on the sides of the gymnasium. It is important to get to the school on time for this event as we will begin the ceremony promotely at 10:00 AM.

The full ceremony will be about an hour. Students should dress in appropriate attire such as dress pants/khakis, polo-style shirts, collared shirts, and jumpsuits/summer dresses would all be appropriate for the occasion. You do not need to have your child dress up for this event...however, it would be a nice touch to wear something special for this very important event in your child's educational career!

Here are a few items that you need to be aware for the next week. Please mark your calendars for the following events and activities that will occur at McAvinnue:

  • Monday, June 5th - McAvinnue Reopens @ 9:10 AM
  • Monday, June 5th - Grade 4 Middle School Move Up Day @ The Wang Middle School @ 10 AM - 11:00 AM
  • Tuesday, June 6th - Channel 4 Weather Showcase @ 10 AM (Grade 4)
  • Thursday, June 8th - McAvinnue's School Site Council @ 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM
  • Thursday, June 8th - District ELL Awards Ceremony @ 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

As usual, we are looking forward to another amazing week at the "best school that we all know"!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the Main Office at McAvinnue or send Mr. Domina a message a

McAvinnue's "Paw"tastic Field Day - Thursday, June 8th

McAvinnue's "Paw"tastic Field Day has been rescheduled due to the extreme weather to Thursday, June 8th. Outside of the date change...there will be no other changes!
