Chester Elementary School

Greetings Parents,
This coming week is the designated recognition week for staff appreciation in schools. Our teachers and staff enjoy their jobs thanks to our incredible students and supportive parents. If possible, I would greatly appreciate it if you and your child could take a moment and write a thank you note to a special teacher or staff member at CES. Nothing is more cherished by an educator then a note of appreciation from a student or parent. Thanks for considering this special request.
Our 3rd-5th graders will be starting state testing on May 7-10th in math and May 13-17 in reading (5th graders will also take a science test). Please help us by making sure your child gets a good night's sleep, and either eats breakfast at home or school. Additionally, please encourage your child to do his/her best on these tests. We don't like to over-emphasize our required testing, but we do want our students to be proud of their results. (6th graders will be testing May 21-30).
Our 6th graders will be off on their week long "Plumas to the Pacific" trip this coming week. They have been working hard and studying our watershed, and will get an opportunity to do some field work with scientists and our local outdoor core teacher, Mr. Rob Wade. A big thanks to Ms. Klimek and our 6th grade parents for supporting, organizing, volunteering and helping make this opportunity happen for our 6th graders. (Last week they went white water rafting!)
Dental screening this Tuesday! Please review the attached flyer. Our friends at the Plumas Health Department are again sponsoring "Healthy Smiles" for interested families and will be here this Tuesday May 7. This is a great opportunity to take advantage of the free service and take care of those teeth. Permission forms are included in the attached flyer.
Fishing Opportunity June 1! Please see the attached flyer. June 1 from 8:00-12:00 at Canyon Dam students can enjoy a morning of fishing with several supporting agencies. Please consider attending. We hope to see this event continue in the upcoming years. (They will probably catch more fish than I ever catch!)
We need help! We are in desperate need of part time workers at CES to help out with our lunch duty (11-1) and substitute teacher aides. If you have some time during the day, enjoy being around young people and would like to make a little cash, then please let us know. Thanks for considering!
