Teachers' Treasures Trivia!
This is our week at Teachers' Treasures! Also, don't forget that you can sign up for the Trivia Night, just for Warren Township Teachers, free on April 30. A group of students from IUPUI is putting this on for Warren only at WCHS. You get a bag of supplies just for attending, plus they are feeding us and giving prizes! Register here via eventbrite
Poem in Your Pocket Day
April is Poetry Month, and the 30th is "Poem in Your Pocket Day". All classes were able to select some poems during their last class visit, and I still have some available in the media center. Why not ask kids to share with you on April 30? I plan to go around the cafeteria and ask as many students as possible. I have several poetry resources on this quia page and this Pinterest page.
edWeb.net Webinars
I attend many of the webinars from edWeb, and have only run into one clunker. Here's one from a great presenter, Vicki Davis, this Thursday. When you register, you get a certificate you can use for PGP's, plus access to the archives. I like the platform they use, because the attendees are able to interact with each other. The audiences are truly global, and there are specific communities for just about any discipline. (I don't participate much in the communities, but do lots of the webinars.)
Distance Learning Opportunities
Some CIA teachers have been connected with experts in the field to do some authentic research. We have used Skype, FaceTime, the phone, and have considered GoogleHangouts. In addition, there are some funds left for any distance learning opportunities you might be interested that have a cost. Please let me know if I can help you. The LGI room is set up to use Skype or GHO.
Book Check Out During Testing
We have open checkout for any students today and tomorrow (4/21 & 4/22. Please send no more than 4-5 at one time.) During their last class visits, we explained to students that we will be like Jimmy John's during testing. There is a place on our Destiny home page (see the image at right) for students to request specific books. They have been told to ask by 11 am; books will be delivered during lunch or after 1 pm. It is important that they still have the opportunity to read, especially things of their choice. There may be some pockets of time during certain days of testing where we can be open. We will put a BIG sign on or door, and you can email us. I can also put it on the PowerPoint announcements on Channel 6.
edCampIndy on June 12
Registration is now open for edCampIndy! You will be hearing more about this, but Warren Township is hosting the 4th annual edCampIndy at Raymond Park. The event is free, and tailored to exactly what you want to learn. You help choose the sessions, and lead some (many are considered conversations, not presentations) and if something isn't meeting your needs... walk out and pick another session. You can register at the above link, or learn more from this video from edcampPhilly. It is truly a world-wide phenomenon.
Indiana DOE's Summer of eLearning
We are fortunate to have a truly outstanding technology program from our DOE (note: the eLearning people have nothing to do with testing) Here is their line up for this summer. These events are either free or fairly cheap, with nationally-known speakers. This will be my 3rd year in a row to attend Center Grove's iPossibilities (it's not just about iPads), and I have been to the Evansville one twice. I'm not sure how many I'm going to this summer. Let me know if you have any questions.
Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library: Mystery for CIA
Winners!
Michale solved the mystery first using our clues from the book, and found the fake Christmas book with a nano-helicopter inside. Students could earn additional clues through reading Young Hoosier books, writing book reviews on Destiny, and more.
Personalized books
Alyssa and Kirsten were our runners-up. Each received a Chris Grabenstein book of their choice, with personalized autograph.
Helpers
Some CIA students stayed after school to help plan the mystery and create flyers, and came early on STEM night-- and Teddy was part of a clue.
