The Animal Kingdom
By Caitlin Kresta
Animals are....
1: Multicellular
2: Heterotrophic
3: Organisms that typically reproduce sexually
4: Organisms that do not have cell walls
5: Organisms that can respond changes in the external and internal environment
Vertebrates:
An animal distinguished by a backbone or spinal column
It is estimated that only 10% of the world's population is made up of vertebrates!
Koala Bears
Koala bears are furry little mammals who feed off of eucalyptus leaves in Australia. They mainly live up in the trees for protection. Koalas do not need to come down for water often because of the water from the leaves!
Invertebrates:
An animal lacking a backbone or spine
It is estimated that about 90% of the worlds population is made up of invertebrates!
Starfish
Starfish is considered a part of the Echinoderms. They live in a habitat of salt water; there are no known starfish who live in freshwater. Starfish are carnivorous and prey on open clams or oysters by using tiny suction-cupped feet.
