The first drawing being held October 19th.
Dear Lane Families,
It was great to see so many families attend parent teacher conferences this week. We love making the connection with everyone and having the opportunity to share the learning at Lane.
The month of October is disability awareness month. During base group time, our students have been learning about various disabilities. On Friday, October 19th the UW Whitewater Wheelchair basketball team will be visiting and we will have an all school assembly. Students and staff will have an opportunity to try their basketball skills from a wheelchair.
Cornerstones for Success
Cornerstones for Success is a unique program that dispels myths about persons who have a disability and will show your students how they can be successful in and out of the classroom. We bring world class athletes who happen to have a disability to your school to "tell it like it is" about life with a disability. They will share with students the successes they have experienced both on and off the basketball court, and show how these experiences have benefited their overall lifestyle. Past presentations have served as motivation for many students throughout the Midwest by pointing out that everyone has challenges that must be overcome. This program will not only provide motivation to all students and faculty, it will be a CORNERSTONE in pointing out the road to SUCCESS
We are looking forward to seeing everyone attend our fall conferences. We encourage your son/daughter to join as well to share their successes at Lane.
The 2nd night of Lane conferences will be Oct. 18th from 4:30 pm - 8:00 pm. Conferences will be held in the cafeteria and the auxiliary gym. Please, enter via the cafe door. We will have Forward Exam results available for pick up and a station to help access Skyward if needed.
When meeting with staff, please be mindful of others waiting and try to keep the conference to five minutes with each teacher. Feel free to set up a phone conversation or an additional appointment if needed. The goal of the conference is to check on progress and make a connection with our staff.
At Lane, some of the staff travel between buildings. Please, see the available times listed.

Wisconsin Forward Exam
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has released Forward Exam results by proficiency level for schools in the state of Wisconsin. This was the third year of the online Forward Exam and the fourth year of the DLM, given to students with significant cognitive disabilities. The Forward and DLM assessments were administered between in the spring of 2018, to 373,100 public school and 15,900 private choice school students enrolled in grades
While this is only one measure of individual student and school performance data, we are pleased overall with results which continue to show, even on this far more rigorous test than years' past, that our students are strengthening performance and growing over time. This data, coupled with classroom assessment data from teacher observation and student work samples, help ensure learning is personalized to each child's needs. For the district, this data helps us evaluate our programs and services to make sure that we continue to support the kind of knowledge and skills needed to be successful and future ready.
8th Grade Career Fair
Monday November 19, 2018
8:00 - 10:00 am
Lane is excited to announce we will be running our second annual Career Fair on Monday November 19 from 8:00 to 10:00 am. We will again be using an arena-style format in our auxiliary gym with 8th graders visiting tables and gathering information about various careers.
This is where we need your help. Last year, we had many Lane parents volunteer their time and share their careers with our students. We are looking for professionals in any field to participate in the Career Fair. Please contact one of us if you can volunteer or if you know of someone that we should contact. Thank you so much.
