Summit Ridge Middle School October 2021
Learner Profile: Open-minded For the month of October, our school will be highlighting what it means to be an “Open-Minded” student. At Summit Ridge, all students take a foreign language class and learn about different cultures around the world. To promote open-mindedness at home, parents and students are encouraged to try new activities and new foods and think about creating new family traditions. Discussions about family heritage often lead to interesting family conversations. | Advisement Lessons Once a month during Advisement, students engage in an “IB Focus Lesson.” In September students reviewed the ten attributes of the Learner Profile. Students created and designed a flower petal that represented one of the attributes. When all of the petals were completed, the class created a Learner Profile flower. | Life Long Learners As an IB school, Summit Ridge is dedicated to keeping our staff up to date with the latest IB training. On September 17th all staff attended targeted IB sessions that allowed for planning time to immediately implement new strategies. Also, at the end of September we sent six teachers to an IB Workshop. At the workshop, teachers collaborated with educators from around the world. The teachers that attended this off-site IB workshop will present their learnings with their colleagues during our professional development day in November. |
