Hello Lakeview Families!

Hello Lakeview Families!

We appreciate the opportunities our teachers have had to meet with you during parent conferences. Good communication between school and families is one of the key ingredients for student success. Thank you so much for all you do to support your children and our teachers!

As a reminder, there is not school on Monday October 8th. We will welcome all of our students back on Tuesday October 9th.

Have a great weekend!

Looking for UIL Coaches!

We need you!

From Ms. Stuebe -

UIL is the University Interscholastic League, a battle of the wits and minds in different subject areas. My goal for Lakeview is to increase the number of students participating in UIL. Before we get students involved, I need you! Coaching a UIL team is a great way to share what you love and inspire others to use their talents and abilities, especially ones we don’t normally use in the classroom. Also, you can co-coach with a parent or teach if you want two brains instead of 1!

If you are interested in coaching a team, please complete this google form before Friday, September 21.

New Program - Lakeview Littles

Parents,

This year we will begin the “Lakeview Littles” program in the library. The Littles program is for any four- or five-year-old child that will be attending kindergarten at Lakeview Elementary during the 2019-2020 school year. The program is meant to provide incoming kindergarteners with an opportunity to be a part of the school prior to entrance. Your child will engage in storytime in the library and get to visit a different specials class to participate in a lesson. Your child will also be able to check-out a book from the library. The Littles program will take place on the last Friday of each month, beginning in October, from 7:50 am to 9:00 am. Parents must be able to attend with their child. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Conklin at heather.conklin@nisdtx.org.

Traffic Patterns for Arrival and Dismissal

Our traffic patterns have not changed - they are the same for arrival and dismissal as they have been in previous years. Please refer to the pictures below for directions.

Patience Please

The beginning of the year can be a stressful transition for students and parents alike. Please know we will do our best to make things run smoothly, but having patience and being flexible will go a long way to help the process. You can expect longer car lines and some traffic confusion to start the year, however, these always improve once we fall into our routines.

Label Jackets, Backpacks, and Lunch Boxes

Please be sure to label your student's jackets, sweatshirts, backpacks, and lunch boxes. While our local charities appreciate our yearly donations, I know you would like to keep a hold of your student's items.

Compulsory Attendance

We understand students miss school for various reasons. As the state requires students to be in attendance 90% of the year, Lakeview will continue to follow state guidelines regarding this issue. If you have any questions we are happy to talk you through the process.

Absence notes are due no more than 3 days after the date of the absent. After 3 days, the absence will be marked as unexcused.

Ride Changes

Big picture
Parents please be sure to send an email to LakeviewElem@nisdtx.org and your child's teacher by 1:00pm to communicate ride changes. We will not release students to ride changes without confirmation from parents regarding ride changes.

Birthday Treats

Big picture
We love celebrating birthdays with our students! When planning on bringing in birthday treats, only pre-packaged store bought products are allowed. To ensure there is time to distribute birthday treats to classrooms, please have them in the office no later than 2:00. We are unable to hold ice cream or popsicles so please do not send treats that will melt. Also, if a treat does not have a label of ingredients it will not be shared with the class. Due to allergies we must know the ingredients for ALL treats. Due to sensitivity no balloons are allowed in the building.

Facebook and Social Media

Social media is a great way to keep up with and in contact with friends and family. When you are posting regarding Lakeview, please keep a few things in mind:

1. Think before you post, your words have power.

2.Do not post pictures or information of children who are not yours. Privacy is important so do not post pictures or information about other students without parent permission.

3. If you have a question regarding events or information regarding Lakeview, your best bet is to always email your child's teacher or call the front office.

4. If you are unhappy with a situation or would like to share a concern, please always email your child's teacher or contact our front office.

5. Finally, stay positive. No one benefits when community members disagree on line.
