Communication/Survey for Requesting Concurrent Remote Learning While Buildings are Open
I hope you're having a great summer. With schools planning to open on August 10, 2020 we are continuing to review and revise our plans to meet the needs of our students, families and staff. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding.
We have been listening to our community and doing our best to come up with a plan that provides a choice for remote learning while our buildings are also open. We have already sent out and received information back from families with medical concerns. Now we are asking ANY FAMILY that is interested in remote learning including those who filled out the medical request to start 2020-2021 to fill out this survey.
Concurrent remote learning plans will have a number of required synchronous (live) and asynchronous opportunities. Not all courses will be offered remotely, and students learning remotely will not participate in activities/athletics. We firmly believe the best educational opportunity exists with students in class under the direct supervision of a teacher; however, we also understand the current reality and the concern people have regarding the pandemic.
Please complete the survey linked here end of business Monday, July 27, 2020 ONLY if you are requesting remote learning for the start of the 2020-2021 school year. If we do not hear from you, we will assume you are attending in person. Even if you completed the original medical request survey, we are asking you to complete this one as well. Please complete a survey for each child for whom you are requesting remote learning.
We understand that some of our families may have chosen alternative plans for the year. This may include homeschool, private school, etc. If you have made alternate plans, please contact the school at 402-715-8246. Please know that this remote option is available to you if you maintain your Millard enrollment.
I wanted to make sure families are also aware the first day of school, August 10, 2020, is for kindergarten students only in all MPS elementary schools. The regular start time will be 8:30 and students will attend for a full day through 3:45. Breakfast will be served starting at 8:15.
KidsNet will not be open for students in grades 1st-5th on August 10, 2020. Students in grades 1-5 will start on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at 8:30, with breakfast being served starting at 8:15. Preschool students will start on Wednesday as they've done in previous years.
We are in the process of refining processes and procedures to ensure social distancing where possible and setting up classrooms to accommodate in person instruction. This includes minor changes to which doors grade levels will enter the building. You will receive an update on the specific entrance doors for all grade levels in the upcoming days.
On August 5, 2020, parents will receive an email with their child's classroom teacher. Teachers will also be sharing a Zoom link for Open House/Curriclum Night sessions. There will be sessions at the following times so parents with multiple children can attend sessions with different teachers.
