Mrs. Baker's Class Newsletter
March 3rd, 2016
What is going on?
Math: We will reinforce our three digit addition strategies we learned last week. We have some fun activities and games planned that will help us practice. Strategies learned were place value, decomposing, and standard algorithm. Students will use these strategies to solve two-three digit addition problems with and without regrouping.
Reading: During reading workshop we will be focusing procedural texts.
Writing: We will wrap up fictional writing this week by choosing a story to publish. The students will edit, revise, and illustrate their chosen story.
Science: We will continue to learn about living things; their environments, things they need to survive, and their characteristics and behaviors. We will study animals and many of their different features like how they see, hear, feel, and live. Our study of animals will continue more after Spring Break.
Sight Words: both, clean eat, give, looked, please, sure, why
Please continue to work with your child to read, write, and spell these words with consistency.
Sommer Elementary is issuing a “20 for 20” reading challenge to our families during the month of March! Pledge to read with your children for twenty minutes a day, for twenty days this month. You can read to your child, your child can read to you, or you can read together -- you choose! Enjoy the time reading with your child during this challenge -- we know it will be worthwhile. Look for more information and a reading log in your child’s Thursday folder.
