President's Message
Fall is here! I hope you are enjoying these mild temps. As your club starts their new year, consider inviting a friend to the meeting. That's the best way to share your love of music AND help your club win the $50 prize for the most new members. I'm hoping there will be a real competition among the clubs. We don't want to be the best kept secret! Wishing you a fabulous start! ~Julie
Event Information
Parade of American Music Month - November
The National Federation of Music has declared the month of November as American Music Month. The Professor Rudolf R. A. Schramm Parade of American Music honors its founder, Ada Holding Miller, by encouraging NFMC clubs to increase programming and performance of American music; to bring more recognition to American composers; to stimulate public appreciation and awareness of American music; and to broaden the knowledge of American music. The Parade encompasses all aspects of music and was established in 1987 by the widow of Professor Rudolf R. A. Schramm.
Make your plans now! Remember there are awards up to $300 for clubs doing many activities. Consider asking your Mayor for a Proclamation. I'd love to see them from around the state! Be sure to take pictures of your event and share with me!

Together We Sing for October - "Grandfather's Clock"
There are at least two versions of how the song came to be written. The one usually quoted involves the historic George Hotel in England, managed by two bachelor brothers. A reliable long case clock was in the lobby. When one brother died, the clock started losing fifteen minutes a day. Repairs were futile. The older brother died at the age of 90, and though fully wound, the clock stopped at the hour of his death - never to go again. When composer Henry Work visited the hotel in 1875, he was fascinated by the clock. Whatever the background, the song tells a great story.
Did you know all these great details are available in your Together We Sing songbook? Check them out in the back!
