Kulshan Connect

February 19, 2021

In our Kulshan Community, we are courageous, kind, and committed!

Arriving and Departing from KMS

Our pick-up loop will be counterclockwise around the lower parking lot at 2:30. With traffic constrictions around Kulshan, your patience is appreciated during pickup. As always, we encourage safe walking and biking practices for those not traveling in cars or buses. If you arrange to meet your child off-site for an alternative pickup location, please coordinate locations that are safe for your child to get to.

8th grade Families

We are in the process of finalizing our high school registration dates. On Wed, March 3 in Homeroom, all high school counselors will visit virtually with all four middle schools to meet with 8th graders and help them understand the high school registration steps. Our virtual high school Information Nights for parents will take place the first two weeks of March. The deadline for all 8th graders to complete the high school registration process is Friday, March 19. Here is our high school course catalog. Students will use this catalog to choose their high school courses.

Orchestra News

Orchestra students returning to school, please bring back your music stands on your first day back if you are not using the bus system for transportation. All students are required to bring their instrument to school on in-person days unless you play cello or bass. Please email Kathryn.barrett@bellinghamschools.org with any questions.

Health Attestation Form

If you plan on sending your child back to in-person school at Kulshan, parents are required to complete this Health Attestation form before each quarter starts. Daily health screens are mandatory for in-person school to take place. Parents will be expected to screen their students before arriving at school every day. We are required by the state health department, the county health department and the state superintendent of public instruction to have a health attestation. This attestation will be completed quarterly and will be kept on file as evidence of your agreement to the terms. Thank you!

Return-to-School Plans

Thank you to all of you who have already filled out our online survey. If you have not done so yet, please complete the survey to help us plan for students returning in cohorts. If multiple people are completing the link at the exact same time, you will receive an error message. Just try again a few minutes later. We apologize for the delay. Here is the link.

Do you have questions about safety protocols, lunch/ recess time, contact tracing, and dismissal? Then check out our newly updated Parent-Student Handbook. Our handbook is full of important information to keep you and your child safe, happy, and healthy.

New Middle School Schedule

Do you have questions about the new schedule? We have designed this new middle school schedule to work both for remote learning, as well as for in-person classes. We started a new semester on Thursday, Feb. 4. Our Wednesday schedule will remain the same throughout the school year. We held a webinar to help explain the schedule; the video link is here. When your child is back at school in-person, they will be using this schedule.

Do you have art to share?

We would love to publish student artwork in our Kulshan Yearbook this year. The art can be any medium - a sketch, painting, sculpture, digital illustration, doodle, collage, or sewing project. It could be something you created in Art class or just on your own. Please email your artwork to Katherine Hendricks , our yearbook editor, by February 19. (if you forget, just email it to any of your teachers and they will pass it on to us)
