Alice Carlson ALC: Growing Lifelong Learners
Message from Liz
Yesterday I was able to spend a few hours with former teachers, staff, and administrators that helped build and shape the campus that I have come to call home. It was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon, hearing all about Carlson beginnings, and it reminded me that I am entering my second spring as your lead learner.
For our first year families, spring at Carlson is BUSY! I say that as someone who has also not ever experienced a "normal" Carlson spring. Let's embrace it together and be grateful for the joy it brings.
There are two big asks that I have, as you read through this week's newsletter. First, please fill out the Grandparents Day Form even if you are not going to participate to better help us prepare. Second, please take the time to consider hosting a Friday Cluster or speaking to someone that may be interested in hosting.
April's calendar will be going home the week students return.
Grandparents Day Sign Up
This year we invite grandparents or a special person to join students for lunch on the Carlson lawn. Students will be checked out to individuals at the canopy door for lunch and then checked back in for the day.
We need to know if you plan to have a special person attend that day in order to better facilitate our check-out system. Please take a few moments to fill out the grade level Google Form for each of your children that will be participating.
Fun Run: Details
All classes will begin heading out to the west lawn (area between gym and auditorium) at 8:15.
Parents are welcome to meet us on the lawn to run with their child's class. Adrienne will begin by releasing 5th grade first at 8:30 and each grade level after that. K-2 will be released by class not full grade level. There will be volunteers and staff on the route to help guide along with a police officer at the intersection we cross at W. Cantey and Stadium and then back again from University to W. Cantey.
Intercultural Festival and Fine Arts Night: 3/31/2022
Reminder
5:00-5:15 Parade
Families participating in the banner parade will meet in the gym. All other families and staff will line the hallway from the gym to the canopy door. Families will parade down the hallway and out the canopy door where they will hang banners on the fence to be picked up by PTA.
5:15-6:30 Classrooms
Families will visit classrooms to learn about each culture/country. Students will share their artifacts (posters, brochures, videos, games, etc) during this time. Just like Math-o-ween, students will sign up for times to work the event in their classroom.
6:30-7:00 2nd Grade Performance
An announcement will be made for all 2nd-grade students to head to the auditorium steps outside at 6:15. Families will be asked to head out at 6:30 for the performance and dismiss from there.
3rd-5th Grade Friday Clusters
It's time for us to plan Friday Clusters. At this point, we do plan to mix our groups either within a grade level or across 3rd-5th depending on environmental conditions at the end of March.
Clusters will happen from 1:45-2:45 on the following Fridays: April 8, 22, 29, May 6, 20, 27, and June 3 will be a Cluster Fair where students will share a product of their learning. Depending on environmental conditions, groups may be mixed only by grade level or mixed between all students in grades 3-5.
We need your help! Do you or someone you know want to bring a six-week topic of interest to Carlson students?
