Classroom News
In addition, your child will have information on Valentine's day (including class list) for our Valentine's day celebration in their folder. Fundraising information for the Courage League (PE fundraiser) is also in their Friday folder.
In literacy, we have been reading tall tales and folk tales and inferring themes. We have also started our creative writing unit writing imagined narratives. Ask your child to tell you about the story that they are conjuring!
In math, we are finishing our unit on multiplying fractions in preparation for our addition and subtraction of unlike fractions unit. We have learned a fun new math game using the rules of Spoons where we find equivalent fractions. The kids love the game Spoons, so try a family game night sometime with these awesome Spoon players!
We had a BLAST sledding on Thursday in honor of filling our ticket bucket two times for SAILing behavior! The kids were so good about looking our for each other, including others, and being responsible for equipment! I think we had some sore muscles and bruises, but thankfully, no serious injuries. A big thank you to Susan Matrise for bringing the most snazzy hot cocoa stand a person could imagine! The kids loved it! More pictures below!
Please see the information on signing up for our Valentine's day party and the Family Fun Night!
Valentine's Day Information
Valentine’s Day is fast approaching! This year our Valentine’s Day party will be held on Friday, February 14th from 2:30 - 3:00 pm. Students may bring a decorated box or bag to school along with valentines for each student in our room. Tradition is for there to be a valentine’s box competition. There will be small prizes award for boxes that go above and beyond. In the past awards were given for ‘Most Valentine-y,’ ‘Most Original’ ‘Best Sports Themed,’ “Most Resourceful/Repurposed’, ‘Most Detailed,’ ‘Best Movie/TV Show Themed,’ and more. The contest is entirely optional. For those not interested in decorating or designing, a plain paper bag will do. Please send these any time prior to Valentine’s Day. A list of students' names has been sent home in your child's Friday Folder today.
Sincerely,
Ms. Hess
