Santa Clara Clarion
Staying Connected, October 23
We are so thankful to this church family and the Silicon Valley team for your support during the past ten days while we've been away at Officer's Councils and vacation. We again thank Shelby and Roxann for making sure Tuesday Family Night went smoothly. We thank Major Doreen for preaching on Sunday! Kris, Maria, and our ARC brothers for covering the food pantry. What a blessing for all to help in the ministry!
As we head into the Christmas season, we ask now to please prepare your hearts and your calendar to include Bellringing and Community Care Ministry gift preparation and deliveries. All the money raised in bellringing helps support the current programs and future endeavors if we do well enough. Volunteer schedules will be coming out soon!

Life Line Screening on December 7
Life Line Screening, the nation’s leading provider of preventive health screenings, will offer affordable, non-invasive and painless health screenings at Salvation Army Citadel of Santa Clara on Wednesday, December 7, 2022.
A package of four screenings to identify risk for stroke, heart disease and other chronic conditions will be offered:
Carotid Artery Screening (Plaque)
An ultrasound is performed to screen the carotid arteries (a pair of blood vessels in the neck that deliver blood to your brain) for buildup of fatty plaque. This buildup, called atherosclerosis, is one of the leading causes of stroke.
Peripheral Arterial Disease Screening
An Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) test is performed using blood pressure cuffs on the arms and legs. It is important to screen for PAD because it increases the risk of coronary artery disease, heart attack, or stroke.1
Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA)
An ultrasound is performed to screen the abdominal aorta for the presence of an enlargement or aneurysm. AAA can lead to a ruptured aortic artery, which is a serious medical emergency.
Atrial Fibrillation
A 6-lead electrocardiogram (EKG) is performed by placing sensors on the arms and legs to screen for Atrial Fibrillation. AFib can lead to blood clots, stroke, and heart failure, and other heart-related complications.2
These 4 vital screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete. Register by calling toll free 1-888-653-6441, text the word "circle" to 216-279-1607 or online at https://llsa.social/HC
ENCORE - April 15
Participation in ENCORE! also provides opportunities for other life lessons. ENCORE! can help in the development of self-assurance and confidence. It can help our young people to understand the importance of proper preparation and of presenting themselves in a positive way. Those in groups can learn the importance of a collaborative creative process – that each part of a group can contribute to the overall presentation of the whole group.
Who Should Participate in Encore?
We hope that the ENCORE program will help corps growth. Prospective Junior & Senior Soldiers are both allowed and encouraged to participate. However, young people are not to be brought in just for this event. They should be attending the corps on a regular basis with the aim of becoming a Junior and Senior Soldier.
