Week of Monday, September 2nd

Room 203

One week down! The students did great with the new rules and procedures. We will continue to practice them. I'm excited to announce this year we will have library day each week. Please encourage your child to bring their books home every night.

  • Please remember to have your child at morning assembly by 7:40am. Morning assembly is a great way to start our day together as a class family.
  • If your child is buying their lunch, make sure to practice their lunch code.
  • Make sure to check and initial their Panther folder daily for behavior notes and school/community information.
  • Check their blue Homework folder for any assignments. Remember all homework is given Monday and due Thursday with the exception of spelling tests, which will be administered on Friday.

First Week of Writing

This week we will be learning both school and class rules and procedures. We will practice them A LOT!

In writing, we will begin launching our writing workshop. The focus of this week is to establish the process and expectations of the writing workshop. They will begin generating ideas for writing as well as building their writing stamina.

Reading Skill

This week the focus is on sequencing. Students should be able to retell a story or an event using time order transitions words, first, next, then, last.

We now have a scheduled library day each Wednesday morning. Each child will be expected to have at least one book on their reading level.

We will review the parts of a complete sentence. Students must be able to identify a complete sentence versus an incomplete sentence. They will be asked to look at their own writing as well as others.

This week's words focus on the short vowel sounds of a and i. Although students are expected to master these words, applying the phonics rule will aid in their writing and reading.
