Weekly Updates from Big Walnut High School
Week of May 8
Well, at least the week ended with sunshine! Our building is buzzing with end of the year excitement as students begin work on final projects, wrap-up final units and for our seniors, begin to think about closing the book on their high school career! We encourage all of our students to finish the year Eagle Strong and do not hesitate to reach out to a teacher or counselor if you have any end of year concerns!
As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teachers, school counselor or the administration if you have any questions or concerns. Feel free to contact the main office at 740-965-3766 between the hours of 7:00 and 3:15.

Senior's Final Week Schedule of Events
Updates from the School Counseling Office
SENIORS:
Please make sure you are staying on top of your classes as we enter the final few weeks. Continue to work hard and be sure to communicate with your teachers if there are any questions or issues. Please be sure to check your bwls email as teachers and counselors may be using this mode of communication to reach out to you!
Requesting Transcripts for CCP Courses:
Did you complete any CCP courses while in high school? If so, you need to request that Columbus State send your college transcript to your new college. Please click here to complete a CSCC transcript request. The cost of a transcript is $7.75. If you are currently in CCP classes this semester, make sure you select the option to have your college transcript sent after Spring 2023 grades are posted.
Seniors Planning to Attend College in the Fall:
If you are planning on attending a college next fall, you have a few things to do:
- submit your deposit and rooming request
- arrange your college orientation date in the summer
***This should be arranged after June 12th as your BWHS transcript will not be
ready prior to this date*** - If you completed any CCP courses, make sure you request your college transcript 2 weeks prior to your orientation. Please see Dr.Jordan's schoology notice about how to request this.
Please reach out to your counselor if you have any questions about this process.

CONGRATULATIONS!
BWHS would like to extend a HUGE congratulations to Mr. Jeffrey Stimmell, our Agricultural Science teacher, for being named Ohio's Agricultural Educator of the Year. What a tremendous honor for Mr. Stimmell! Congratulations!
Congratulations to our FFA Students!
Our FFA students recently participated in their final events of the year. Competing in the Small Animal Care event for the first time, our team placed third in the state for the Dog Grooming Division. Individuals participating included Jordyn Lokey (7th), Maddy Jones (9th), Paris Anderson (11th), Lilly Cappitte (24th), and Landon Sewell (29th). This event tested students' knowledge of dog grooming through a written test, product and breed identification, and demonstration of hands-on skills needed to succeed in a dog groomer career.
Additionally, Lilly Cappitte, Mallory Cline, and Maddy Jones participated in the Agricultural Issues Forum CDE, placing fourth in the state. For this event, they researched rural broadband, created a 15-minute presentation, and presented it to 10 community groups before the event.
Our students did incredibly well this year, finishing with five top-four finishes at the state level, including three wins. We have two groups advancing to compete at the National FFA Convention next fall to represent Ohio in their events. Congrats to the entire BWHS Agricultural Sciences Program!
BWHS Academic Boosters
Academic Boosters - who are we? We are a group of organized parents who provide support to help improve the academic experience for all students, parents, and staff at BWHS. We provide An Evening of Excellence in September to recognize sophomores, juniors, and seniors who earned a 3.5 GPA the previous year. We sponsor the annual Academic and Military Signing in the spring for graduating seniors who have been offered college scholarships and graduating seniors who have enlisted in Military Services. Students who earn a 5 on their AP exam receive a High Five yard sign provided by and delivered to their home by members of the Academic Boosters. Our staff at BWHS is crucial to the success of our students and the academic booster parents show them just how much we appreciate them by providing a few very small tokens of appreciation during staff appreciation week in April. We have many other ideas of ways we can expand and continue to support the academic efforts of our students and staff! We are looking forward to a productive and fun year!
Meetings are typically at 6:30pm on the second Monday of each month. (No December meeting.) This year, our meetings are as follows: 5/8.
