December 1 - SAC Meeting via Microsoft Teams @ 4:00 PM
December 21 - January 01 - Winter Break (no school for students)
Nova Blanche Families,
It is the Holiday Season!!! December is the time for family, friends, celebrations, and some cold weather. This year, it also brings a new level of hope and optimism. With a greater understanding of Covid-19 and vaccines nearing disbursement, we are inching closer to being able to return to normalcy.
I hope that you make the best of the holidays and bring in 2021 both healthy and ready to put Covid-19 in the rearview mirror. Celebrate your families and friends while exercising sound judgment to keep everyone safe. We are so close to the finish line so don’t let up now.
Covid-19 has caused our district and our school to rework policies and procedures. We have adapted to a steady flow of changes since March. With the second half of the school year about to begin, we will continue to modify procedures to keep our school community safe and maintain academic focus. We all know it isn’t the same as before, but we continue to push hard in the environment that we currently inhabit.
I want to introduce three new Nova Blanche Forman staff members:
Crystal Merritt is our new ESE Specialist. We are very excited to welcome Mrs. Merritt to our team. To reach Mrs. Merritt you can email her at Crystal.Merritt@browardschools.com.
Sade Smith is our new Information Management Technician (IMT). Ms. Smith is filling the role of Mrs. Cooper. We wish Mrs. Cooper a very happy, healthy retirement! We are so excited to welcome Ms. Smith to our team. Ms. Smith can be reached via email at sade.michelle.smith@browardschools.com.
Katie Meoli is our new 3rd Grade Teacher. We are very happy to welcome her to Nova and she has already been working hard with her students.
Enjoy your holiday and the start of a new year. I am confident that 2021 is going to bring much joy, good health, and growth to our Nova Blanche Forman community!!!
Stay safe.
Sincerely,
Mr. Russ Schwartz
Principal
Hello and Happy Holidays!
The character trait for December is Kindness: Kindness is being helpful, thoughtful, caring, compassionate, and considerate. The family newsletter can be found here: KINDNESS NEWSLETTER. "It's nice to be important but it's important to be nice." -John Marks Templeton.
In February we will take the Broward Standards Assessment testing (BSA). This year they are only offering 5th grade Science for the BSA. Dates for testing are to be determined.
Internet Safety!
Are you aware of the apps that your child uses? Are you monitoring their screen time and the websites they are visiting? We are using the internet more than usual this year so it is important to check in on what our students are viewing and exposed to!
Check out my read aloud on internet safety for students to remind them of the importance of staying safe while using the internet: Technology Tail Read Aloud

Keep in mind that with a loaner device, it’s important students do not place permanent marks such as stickers or writing on the devices.
There will be NO birthday or holiday celebrations.
Do not send in items to be shared or passed out.

It's a new school year... let's instill a new-found love of reading!
Arrival
School begins promptly at 9:30 AM. Students being transported to school by car must not arrive before 9:00 AM. Upon arriving late, after 9:30 AM, students must come to the front office to be admitted to class. Except in cases of a late bus, students will be marked tardy at 9:30 AM. As per the School Board of Broward County Discipline Matrix, habitual tardies can result in consequences such as time out, detention, social worker interventions and/or rescission of Nova placement.
Dismissal
Children are dismissed at 3:30 PM. If a student is to be picked up early, a note must be given to the classroom teacher in the morning. No child is permitted to leave the school at any time prior to the regular dismissal time unless he/she is signed out in the front office. Students will not be called to the office for early dismissal after 3:00 PM. Only persons listed on the registration form will be permitted to sign out a child.
Per School Board Policy, there will be no dismissal after 3:00 PM. Dismissal begins at 3:30 PM. If your child is a car rider, please be on time, in an emergency call the office.
Children who are car riders at dismissal will be seated according to grade level. Parents who do not wish to park, must wait in the car line. Parents need to wait outside, not in the front office. Students will not be released to meet parents across the parking lot. Names of children and their grade level should be placed in the windshield of the passenger side of the car. It is of extreme importance that children be picked up on time or enrolled in the After Care program at Nova Blanche Forman. Parents who habitually pick their child(ren) up late will be referred to the school social worker.
To ensure the success of your children, it is important that they be in school on time and that they remain in school through the end of the day.
