Wellness at Walnut High School

Our goal at Walnut High School is to continue to build in layers of support and different options and places on campus where students can receive care.

As we begin the year, we want to emphasize the importance of making connections and putting students in need, or in crisis, in touch with another person. Many of the most difficult outcomes happen when isolation is present. If you see something or someone in need do not be passive but perform outreach and get help into the life of the person you worry about.

Administration, GLC’s, Counselors, PC’s, and teachers are all intended to be specific ways to build relationships with students. They are there to break down isolation and provide person to person support. The QR Code is going to be a link to resources online.

Its all built on the research around School Connectedness and the South African greeting of Sawubona. Instead of saying, “Hi" or "What's up" or even "How are you?" Sawubona is the greeting “I see you.” The highest compliment and offering a sense of care and appreciation is to say “I see you” essentially you are valuable and matter. "To be seen" is then one of the greatest gifts you can receive from another person.

School Lunch Policy

Due to safety concerns, we DO NOT accept student lunches in the office. We understand the importance of student nutrition, but we encourage students to either purchase lunch at school or bring their lunch from home. Food, drinks, or other items are NOT to be passed to students through the fence. This is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

Please Note: Parents can now access the Food Services Department from our website under the Parents tab. On that page, parents can set up and deposit funds into their student's lunch account for purchasing lunch on campus.

CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS POSTER - SUPPORT SUNSHINE CLUB!

Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children. Yet, only four percent of national cancer research funding is allocated for pediatrics.

In January of 2019, a student in the Walnut Valley School district lost his battle against leukemia after numerous rounds of chemotherapy, two failed transplants, and countless side effects and complications. Throughout his journey, his sister witnessed firsthand, the heartbreaking struggles and sufferings pediatric cancer patients endured. This inspired the start of Sunshine Club at Diamond Bar High School. The primary mission is to brighten the lives of pediatric cancer patients and to raise awareness in our community, so people are more motivated to contribute towards finding a cure.

With September being pediatric cancer awareness month, Sunshine Club is taking this opportunity to bring attention to the lack of funding for pediatric cancer research and to raise money for this worthy cause. Sunshine Club is raising funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. It is the only research hospital in the nation to conduct cutting edge studies toward finding a cure and to provide free quality care. You can donate to St. Jude via this link: http://events.stjude.org/sunshineclub. Any amount would be greatly appreciated.

To further raise funds for this cause, Sunshine Club is holding used book sales every weekend in September. The dates for the book sales are listed below:

9/07-9/08 at Diamond Bar Albertsons (1235 S Diamond Bar Blvd, Diamond Bar, CA 91765)

9/14-9/15 at Diamond Bar Walmart (1180 S Diamond Bar Blvd, Diamond Bar, CA 9176

9/21-9/22 at Diamond Bar Albertson

9/28-9/29 at Diamond Bar Walmart

All of the proceeds from the used book sales will be going to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
