Hello HES Families,
I hope that this message finds all of you doing well. As we near the end of January, the teachers are beginning their work on the children's report cards. Report Cards will be open to view on Tuesday, February 11th. After 4:00 pm, parents of students in grades kindergarten through six will be able to log onto their account on the Home Access Center (HAC) and view their child’s report card.

Music Class
A few weeks ago, I shared information about the wonderful celebration provided by the students for Mrs. Lutz, who will be retiring at the end of the marking period. Mrs. Lutz made such a significant impact on the school and the students over the years, and finding someone to take over the general music position was no small feat.
Fortunately, HES will continue to have such a talented educator in this position for the remainder of the year as Ms. Jennifer Michel will be the new general music teacher along with Mrs. O'Connor. Ms. Michel's first day will be on January 29th, and we're so excited that she's joining the HES team. At the following LINK, you can read a letter that Ms. Michel wrote to introduce herself to the HES community. Welcome to HES, Ms. Michel!
Spring Art Club
Spring Art Club with Ms. AuBuchon will be starting Thursday, February 13th, 2020. Art Club is offered to fifth and sixth grade students who enjoy Art and truly want to create projects that go beyond what is made during regular Art Class.
Due to the great response in September during the Fall Art Club sign up, many students have already signed up for the Spring Art Club, and the Spring Art Club is FULL for this year.
Spring Art Club meets every Thursday after school in the Art room from 3:45 to 4:45 PM. It begins Thursday, February 13th and runs for 12 weeks with Thursday, May 7th as the final meeting.
School Board Appreciation
School Play
At HES, there has been a past practice of holding a school play every other year, and this is the year in which a play would be held. When this type of event is facilitated, it takes numerous resources including equipment, facilities, time, and funds. By far, the most important resource to facilitate a play is people. Unfortunately, efforts over the last several months to find individuals to do this have been unsuccessful.
There are two things to communicate about this. First, I know that there are many children who were looking forward to participating in this activity, and it's important to find an alternative activity for them. To that end, the school could facilitate a talent show for the children in the spring that would provide an opportunity for them to demonstrate their talents on stage. This would include a day performance for the students along with an evening performance for families.
Second, I know that there are parents who will be disappointed with not having a play, as well. So, I would welcome the idea of parent volunteers to run the play. It would likely require a group of parents who have the time and experience to facilitate running a play. In addition, these parents also need to already have their volunteer clearances. If you have ideas or would like to consider volunteering, please feel free to reach out to me.
If a group of parents can be organized to run a play, there can be discussions to determine if it could work. But truly I believe that we can provide a wonderful experience for the children through a talent show, as it would include children who would like to share their talents on stage as well as children who would like to participate as members of the stage crew. Thank you.

Book Buds Reading Program
Do you think your child would benefit from reading a few extra minutes each week? Does your child enjoy spending time with older peers?
Book Buds is a volunteer group of high school students started by two Holland Elementary School (HES) graduates, Julia Levin and Gavin Holloran. We both currently have siblings at HES. Book Buds offers an opportunity for your child to spend time with an energetic and fun high school student at Northampton Township Library in Richboro for 30-minute reading sessions. The high school students will be reading with children who do not typically enjoy independent reading or dislike reading at home to caregivers. This is a chance to make reading a fun activity with a teenage role model. Each session will end with a fun activity customized to your child’s interests.
More information can be found at the followiong LINK.

From the Nurse's Office
If your child has been ill, please allow adequate recovery time so that your child does not re-introduce illness at school by returning too early. Please also consider the fact that some children are very fatigued during illness recovery and do need a little extra time at home. Children who have had diarrhea or have been vomiting should remain home for 24 hours symptom-free before returning to school.
We ask that children be free of fever for 24 hours, with NO Tylenol or Motrin during the 24 hours, before returning to school. If unsure, please call the health office to discuss your child’s care.
We wish you all a very happy and healthy New Year.
Thank you. Mrs. Jordan and Mrs. Gaughan
