Notes from Dr. Raeder
Welcome to May. We are excited about finishing the year strong. We are proud of the work of our students during this school year. There is no rule book written on how to be a successful high school student, yet the students of LHS accomplished this goal. This is a time to honor the work of the school year and especially the efforts of our graduates.
Due to snow days, our last day of school has changed, it is now May 26th. Finals will be on May 25th and May 26th. The schedule for Semester Tests is below. We will have open lunch each day and Chromebooks will be collected after the final exam. This is a change from last semester.
The Lincoln high school graduation ceremonies will be held Sunday, May 21st at the Sioux Falls Arena at 7:15 PM. Our graduation ceremony will be live-streamed so friends and family not in attendance also have an opportunity to celebrate with their graduates. At the arena, it is suggested that visitors refrain from bringing bags with them as bags are searched and metal detectors are used. Best of luck to all the graduates as they tackle their next adventure. Go Pats!

Day of Graduation Information
To help the graduation ceremony be a happy and dignified experience, Lincoln High School would like to inform you of certain guidelines for graduation.
Students must be at the Sioux Falls Arena by 6:00 PM on Sunday, May 21. Graduation will start promptly at 7:15 PM. Family and friends may take their seats starting at 6:15 PM. Metal detectors will be in use and bags will be searched. Please limit the items you take into the Arena.
All graduation ceremonies will be live streamed so other family members also have an opportunity to celebrate with their graduate. Here is Lincoln High School’s graduation live stream link: https://youtube.com/live/j7bVCdjxRAQ?feature=share
The graduation ceremony will also be played on KLRN Wednesday, June 7 and Sunday, June 11 at 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. There will be no photographer.
We are asking students to dress in attire that is appropriate for a more formal celebration. Jeans, bare feet, flip flop sandals or tennis shoes are not acceptable. If this presents a hardship for a student, please let us know immediately. Mortarboards should be worn flat on a graduate’s head and may not be decorated. Native American students may attach an eagle feather or plume and medicine wheel to their caps. Native American students may also wear a preapproved beaded cap; the beaded design must be approved by May 15 by the Office of Indian Education.
Please inform your son or daughter that air horns, plastic balls, or other items of distraction will be confiscated. It is unfair to students when names cannot be heard because of distractions.
The recessional is the closing of the graduation ceremony. Seniors will move their tassels from left to right upon receiving their diplomas. Immediately after being presented, seniors will recess through the front of the Arena and proceed to the back, where you may meet with your graduate. To facilitate this process, we ask that you do not leave your seats until all the seniors have had an opportunity to recess out.
Graduation practice will be Tuesday, May 16, during WIN time (10:05-10:40 AM). Student diploma inserts will be available for pickup in the Lincoln High School office starting on June 13. Please be sure all school-related fees have been paid prior to May 1.
We want our graduation ceremony to be an occasion dedicated to the recognition of the achievements of these students. If you have any questions concerning graduation, please call LHS at 367-7990.

Lincoln's National Honor Society
On April 17, 2023, the Lincoln Chapter of the National Honor inducted 109 new members and honored 118 senior members at the 2023 NHS Induction and Cording Ceremony. To be accepted into National Honor Society, students undergo a rigorous application process. Not only do they need to demonstrate a minimum weighted GPA of a 3.5, but they must also have completed a minimum of 6 hours of documented service or volunteer work in the current school year, demonstrate leadership in various aspects of student and community life, and reflect the qualities of sound character by receiving recommendations from LHS Faculty. All aspects of the students’ applications are reviewed by the Faculty Council, who makes their recommendations for membership. Membership into National Honor Society is earned by the student’s ability to demonstrate and maintain these pillars of scholarship, leadership, character, and service.
Congratulations to the senior members for maintaining and upholding the pillars of National Honor Society and being able to wear the honor cords at graduation. To our newly inducted members, congratulations and welcome. You are now tasked with maintaining these pillars of scholarship, leadership, character, and service that earned your admission into the Lincoln Chapter of National Honor Society and as seniors next year, to serve as role models for the underclassmen at LHS.
2023 Advanced Placement Exams

Coaches Corner
Lincoln High School Game Day Production (GPD) students are off and running with their first ever Coaches Corner. Throughout the year, the sports broadcasting students will post interviews with coaches and directors. In the following videos, current sports broadcasting and GPD students Caden Watson and Nolan Slade had interviews and spoke with three LHS coaches. During these interviews the students were able to gather information on the sport and the teams. Watch the three interviews and hear about what’s going on with track and field, boys' tennis, and girls' golf at Lincoln High School! Thanks for watching and enjoy!
Track and Field:
The Lincoln track and field team has sprung into action despite the weather roadblocks. The Patriots have plenty of athletes exceeding expectations and performing well in the early season. Will the patriots return to the top at the end of the season? Hear this interview on Coaches Corner from longtime track and field head coach, Coach Jaws to learn more about the season ahead.
Boys Tennis:
The Lincoln Boys tennis team is off to a hot start, winning all of their first five matches 9-0. The Patriots are coming off of eight consecutive state championships and looking for a ninth with plenty of returning players from a year ago. Hear some thoughts from Coach Krueger in this edition of Coaches Corner.
Girls Golf:
Girls Golf at Lincoln High School has had a struggle being able to get on the course for meets due to the weather. Plenty of depth and golfers ready to go, the Patriots look to contend this season. Coach Amundson shares a little bit about the rest of the season in his Coaches Corner interview.
HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES PARTICIPATION
The Sioux Falls School District is committed to preparing our students for purposeful engagement in the world through participation in activities. Students in Grades 7 - 12 have the opportunity to participate in the high school interscholastic athletics and/or activities programs, including sponsored sports. For those students interested in participating in the Sioux Falls School District activities program during the 2023-24 academic year, the following information MUST be on file PRIOR to any participation in activities, which includes, but is not limited to, the first practice, workout (summer included) or tryout of an activity in which the student is participating in. Please turn in all forms to the High School’s Activities Principal in the Activities Office.
FORMS NEEDED FOR PARTICIPATION
- Annual Student Registration (OLR) (Online)
- This online form is for parents/guardians of students who wish to participate in the high school interscholastic athletics and/or activities programs, including Sioux Falls School District sponsored sports. The form can be completed online starting Monday, April 3, 2023.
- To complete the Annual Student Registration (OLR), sign into your Parent Portal on Infinite Campus: Infinite Campus Parent Portal (Click Here)
- For instructions on How to Complete the Annual Student Registration (OLR) (Click Here) or (Attached).
- Preparticipation Physical Evaluation Form (Paper Document)
- In order to help ensure the health and safety of students participating in athletics, the Sioux Falls School District School Board will require an annual preparticipation physical evaluation of all students who participate in South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA) recognized interscholastic athletics, all Sioux Falls School District sponsored sports, and any other school sponsored activity deemed as physically demanding as an athletic activity. This evaluation must occur after April 1 for the ensuing school year but prior to the first practice, workout (summer/school year) or tryout of an athletic activity in which the student is participating in.
- The annual medical evaluation must be performed by a licensed medical personnel that is qualified to perform the evaluation and certify the health of the student (Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathy, Doctor of Chiropractic, licensed Physician’s Assistant and licensed Nurse Practitioner). This examination is valid for one school year except when the student has had a significant injury, illness, or major surgery. A student-athlete who has suffered a significant injury or significant illness, has had major surgery, or is suspected of having suffered a concussion is required to submit the consent for continued participation form signed by a licensed health care provider verifying that it is safe for the student to participate.
- Print the Sioux Falls School District Preparticipation Physical Evaluation Form 2023-24 (Click Here) or (Attached).
- The Preparticipation Medical History must be completed by the patient and parent/guardian and brought to appointment with the licensed medical personnel.
- How do Sioux Falls School District families schedule a Preparticipation Physical Evaluation:
Option 1:
The Sioux Falls School District recommends scheduling your student for a Preparticipation Physical Evaluation with your family doctor/provider. At this evaluation, immunizations can be updated, and other health issues addressed. The Preparticipation Physical Evaluation Form must be completed at this evaluation. Many insurance companies will pay for this evaluation, and sometimes a co-pay may apply. When contacting your doctor/provider’s office, please remember to ask for a “wellness exam”.
Option 2:
If you don’t choose option 1 where your insurance may cover the wellness exam, we have also arranged with several local health care providers for a special $35.00 rate for Preparticipation Physical Evaluations (See attached SFSD Clinics that offer Preparticipation Evaluation). Charges will not be filed with your insurance company at this rate, and you must pay the $35.00 fee at the time of your appointment. In order to qualify for the special rate, please call the clinic and ask for a “Sioux Falls School District Preparticipation Physical Evaluation”. Call early this spring as certain scheduling concerns, such as a specific date or month(s) this summer may apply and will vary by clinic and/or doctor. For a list of Clinics that offer Preparticipation Physical Evaluations for $35.00 (Click Here) or (Attached).
Option 3:
Falls Community Health provides services on a sliding fee scale as low as $15.00 for patients based on income and family size.
Avera Health Care Clinic – 300 N. Dakota, Suite 117 – (605) 322-6800 provides free services to the non-insured.
Option 4:
Cost and/or access to a healthcare provider should not be a barrier to participation. If you are unable to schedule an appointment or have concerns regarding the cost of the above options, please contact your Activities Principal.
