A Child Called It
by Caitlin Proulx
A Child Called It, is about a boy named David, who gets badly abused by his mother. He has to try to survive his mothers games and her abuse. He doesn't know when his next meal will be, and he doesn't ever know when he will get to sleep inside, or if he's forced into the freezing garage for the night. This book is about how he learns to survive in this house.
"I decided that I would use any tactic I could think of to defeat Mother or to delay her from her grizzly obsession. I knew if I wanted to live, I would have to think ahead. I could no longer cry like a helpless baby. In order to survive, I could never give in to her." (pg 43, Pelzer)
