Aim for Excellence: We All Matter!
Leader in Me - Think Win - Win
December Habit #4 – Think Win - Win
Think Win-Win is the belief that everyone can win. It’s not me or you—it is both of us. It is a belief that there are enough good things for everyone; it is an abundant way of thinking. Think Win-Win is being happy for others when good things happen to them. As a parent, not everything is negotiable, but if you go into discussions with your child with a win-win mindset, you’ll find a lot less resistance.
Younger-Child Activities
1. Play a game with your child(ren) that has a definite winner. Explain how competition is okay when you play a game, but it is not okay in relationships. Discuss how tense it would be in your home if every situation had to have a winner. A better way to think is win-win. This means we think of solutions that we can all feel good about when there is a problem. The more we Think Win-Win, the fewer problems there will be. You may want to display a chart listing the days of the week. When someone is “caught” thinking win-win, he or she gets to write his or her name on the chart for that day.
2. Encourage win-win solutions to sibling disputes. Don’t always be the mediator; let them work out a solution and be sure to lavish children with praise when they do.

Pastries with Parents
We would like to invite all of our parents and guardians to PASTRIES WITH PARENTS this Friday, December 6th from 7:15-8:00. After you enjoy a pastry from our school, we would like to invite you to a classroom in your student's grade level and let them read you a book.
We hope to see you all there! If you plan to attend, please RSVP on the paper sent home last Tuesday.

PTO Meeting December 16th @ 8:30 a.m.
We will have a Spanish Interpreter at the meeting.
Student Drop Off - IMPORTANT CHANGES
We have many students who have become independent and are ready to walk to class on their own. Our teachers value each instructional minute. If parents check in through the office in the morning, we are asking parents to leave campus when the bell rings to allow teachers to start their class on time. Our staff will ensure they safely make it to class.
Please continue to drop off in the parent drop off/pick up lane. For student safety, we ask that parents do not use the lot by JEEP as students will still be required to go through the office. This lot was not designed as a drop off location and is a safety issue for our students and other drivers.
Student Council Food Drive
The class the brings the most food from each grade wins a hot cocoa bar and the class that brings the most food in the school wins doughnuts and a hot cocoa bar.
Keeping Winter Illness at Bay
Over the break is a great time to wash coats, sweatshirts, hats, etc... to reduce the likelihood of spreading germs. Let's make an effort to keep everyone (students, staff, parents, siblings, etc...) healthy by keeping your child home if they are running a fever over 100.5 or vomiting in the last 24 hours. Please call 208-324-4841 to notify the school of your student's absence.
Reminder: Students will be outside for recess when it feels like 20 degrees and above. Please send a proper coat, hat, and gloves to school.

Check your Lunch Balance
Parents are now able to check their student's lunch balance in PowerSchool.
Before you are able to check the balance, you will need to log in or create an account in PowerSchool. This account will also allow you to check their grades and attendance.
Here is a short video to show you how to easily set up an account: https://youtu.be/Yk9UBBJ4BP8 Account information will be sent home on Monday, December 9.
You can link ALL of your students and check grades with one log in!
Access to JSD parent portals is at https://powerschool.jeromeschools.org/public/.
Emergency School Closure
School Cancellation - If the weather is questionable, please listen to the local radio stations for emergency school closures. We will also send out a text message if you have opted in to receive them.
Busing Information - Transportation Plan Changes (NEW!)
Please ensure your student knows their transportation plan ahead of time. For the safety of our students, if a student gets on a bus, they are not allowed to get off (at our school or other schools, etc...) with any adults other than school staff.
Therefore, if you need your student taken off of the bus after it has loaded, you will need to check into the office of the school that your student attends and we will do our best to coordinate getting the student off of the bus. Students are only allowed to get off at the school they attend.
If you have a change of plans and need a message delivered to your student, please make sure to call the office by 2:30 PM Monday-Thursday and 1:30 PM on Fridays. Notes are sent out at that time and we are unable to accept change of plans after that time. For early student checkout, students will need to be checked out by 3:00. Otherwise, please plan on picking your student up in the parent pick-up lane.
