MYP Updates and Tools for teachers

Coordinator's Corner

Dear MYP Teachers,

It's our last month! I appreciate your open-mind this year as I was learning my job. Theresa had some big shoes to fill. While I am still learning how to walk in them, your dedication to the school has guided me.

I am looking forward to finishing this year strong! We have almost completed ALL of our Subject Overviews, so we are set for next year. Our focus for the remainder of the school year will be to ensure that there are 4 units completed to meet our MYP Goal.

See you around!

Erin

STRATEGIES TO INCREASE OPEN-MINDEDNESS

SERVICE LEARNING UPDATE

Students have been logging their hours for Service Learning, which is a requirement for MYP. While we highly encouraged students to log 5 hours, some students are surpassing the requirements by helping with District One PLAY.

A SPECIAL shout out to the Design Team for their work on Service Learning! Give Mr. Cruz, Mr. K, Mr. Baker, and Ms. Senge a high five!

MYP MATH 7 SURVEY PROJECT

In Mr. Taghavi's Math 7 class, students created a survey, collected data, assembled a slide presentation, and presented their findings to their seventh grade peers during Math 7.

Through their research, students recognized outliers to remove from their data and explained their reasoning behind their decisions. They created box plots, dot plots, and histograms to display their data.

Most interesting: students observing the presentation provided feedback based on the presentation such as "logical data", "very precise information", "great eye contact", "avoid reading from the slides", and "consider your outliers". Excellent discussion based on the presentation.

If your students are presenting or working on projects, please let me know!

Thanks Mr. Taghavi for opening your classroom!

SIERRA COLLEGE FIELD TRIP

NMS Sixth graders spent a day exploring Sierra College! They were excited to hear about the opportunities for college and career in their backyard.
